looking for a nanny
Does anyone plan on hiring a nanny when they go back to work? This is the route my dh and I will probably have to go because of our hours and I'm wondering how to even begin the "nanny search".

Re: looking for a nanny
hmmmm, no responses ... is everyone a stay at home mom or are you just opting for day care over a nanny?

I haven't, but I know a friend got a nanny and is so happy with her. I don't remember the service though.

Re: looking for a nanny
I was a nanny for years for a family. I found the ad in the pennysaveer. Why not try there?

Re: looking for a nanny
I was a nanny for years for a couple of families. I started as a senior in high school and I was part of the work-for-school-credit program at my school. The family came to the school and they put them in touch with me. I worked from after school (around 3pm) until about 7-8pm.
When I was in college I was a nanny for another family and would be there from about 7am until 6 or 7 pm. and they had placed an ad in the Pennysaver too.

A friend of mine suggested putting up an ad in a local college.

Re: looking for a nanny
Thanks ladies. These are good suggestions. Also, I spoke to some women at work and they suggested I use an agency.
I think I'm just overwhelmed by the whole idea of having to hire a nanny. I kind of always thought I'd stay at home, but now it looks like that might not be possible. I think I just have to figure out what I want.

Re: looking for a nanny
Good Luck in your search. I would have used a nanny for similar reasons - long work hours - but my cousin is my nanny since she is taking a year off of school before she goes for her medical career. Not sure what I will do in a year.
I know my friend is very happy with a college student she uses but that is good for the summer fulltime only. But her kids aren't infants - toddlers - so they will be in school in the fall and just use the nanny after school.
A woman at my office recommended an agency she used...if you want I can ask for the number...let me know.

A phone number would be great, if you don't mind asking. You can FM me if you prefer. Thanks again.

If you wouldn't mind, I would love the number too. DH and I are starting to think about nanny vs. daycare.
Thank you.

Re: looking for a nanny
Just a question...How far in advance do you start to look for a nanny? With our little one 10 months olsd and a new one to arrive in Feb. we may consider a nanny rather than dayacare.

Re: looking for a nanny
Good Luck in your search. This is where my search began but we ended up using family instead.
Older family members who used nannies in the past actually suggested looking through the church. Another suggestion we received was a local college that has an education program (maybe Dowling)
