looking for a school ! ETA I live in Patchogue.
I am looking for a school for my DS. He will be 3 in June, the daycare that he goes to suggests that the kids go on to the next level by the time they are 3. She sent me to a Montisorre (sp?) school in Brentwood. I am willing to go and check out the school, but it is further from my house than the daycare would be. I am having another DS in June and a 8 year old DD to get on the bus, that would be alot of shuffling in order to catch my reg train into work. The daycare is excellent, he spells his name, knows his colors, shapes, numbers and is in the beginning stages of reading. They will make sure that he is potty trained before he leaves them. I want him to continue to be challenged, I am also interested in a school that is diverse, so that he can identify with other kids that look like him, as well as other races. Any help is appreciated.

Re: looking for a school
What town are you looking to stay close to? How far do you want to travel?

Re: looking for a school
The Laurel Hill School is great. It's a bit of a hike, but I think they may still have transportation for you if you don't live close.

Do you need f/t care? You might have a hard time finding a preschool program with f/t hours. Abigail Bottoms I've heard is good, but again, not f/t (if that's what you need). Many daycares have great preschool programs also.

I know someone that sent their child there and didn't have such great things to say for the tution that you pay there. They do however have a GREAT summer camp from what I hear.

I would need a full time program. I am pleased with the daycare that he goes to now. I am hoping to find one soon, if not I am considering leaving him there for one more year. But I know that his provider wants him to go on to the next level.

Everyone has different experiences! I have no first hand experience (my son goes to a school that is probably a little further than OP wants to travel). But I was extremely impressed with the program and thought it was a good value for what was offered. My friend sent each of her 3 children there and they loved it so much they continued on and did elementary there as well. But - obviously there are opinions in both directions!
