Looking for a study
I'm looking for a study, online, but I can't seem to find it. Unfortunately, I don't know who conducted it. Basically, it claimed that children raised by their mothers, without a father in the household, do just as well as those with a father in the household. Sorry to be so vague. I only have a few clues to find it. If anyone is familar with it, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Not exactly a study, but here's an interesting article related to what you're looking for: http://members.aol.com/asherah/decon.html
BTW, I grew up without a father, and I think I turned out pretty good....

Re: Looking for a study
I personally think studies either for or against fathers having a major influence ignore most of the more important factors. For example, how does having a physically and/or emotionally abusive alcoholic father make you a better student? It's really the environment you grow up in that matters. Maybe stereotypically, households without fathers have a lot of stress, anger, lack of money, etc, but it's still the environment and not the father's absence.
My mother cared very much about us, we didn't have a lot of money, but we had enough. We spent a lot of time together as a family. Education was very important in our family. That's why my sibs and I turned out pretty good, despite not having a father.
With that said, as a father, I think it is beneficial for kids to have a *caring*, *loving*, and *nurturing* father, which is what I'm trying to be. I want my kids to grow up knowing that their parent(s) are always there for them, education is important, everyone loves each other in the home, and they are important.
