Looking for any information on Dr. Grillo in Levittown or Dr. Jonathan Jassey in Bellmore.
I am way behind on picking a ped for my LO who will probably be arriving in 3 weeks. I called both offices but neither dr had time for an interview so I was wondering if anyone could tell me about them. I have heard good things about both, but I'm just wondering if anyone has the answers to these questions:
1. Do they do blood work and tests on site? 2. How are calls handled after hours or on holidays? 3. What is their policy on spacing out/ excluding vaccines? 4. Do they have separate sick/well rooms or hours? 5. Are newborns seen at special times? Are children under 1 taken right into an exam room? 6. How is the wait time for appointments?
Any info or experiences anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated! TIA!

I see Dr. Grillo and love him. I will answer the questions i know
1. Do they do blood work and tests on site? I know blood work is done off site
2. How are calls handled after hours or on holidays? You call number and if he is not on he has other DR covering for him. But for example this week he was on vacation so he had another DR covering for him and it said this on the answer machine when you call. The DR covering for him was in the building next to his
3. What is their policy on spacing out/ excluding vaccines? I dotn know the policy i do waht he recommends i can tell you it seems he does space them out and wont usually give more than 2 shots at one time. DD didnt have her full sets of shots until she was 3 months old and it probably would have been longer but she was starting daycare so he had me come back earlier than he wanted.
4. Do they have separate sick/well rooms or hours? They have a separate sick room. Not hours i dont think
5. Are newborns seen at special times? Are children under 1 taken right into an exam room? i dont think their is special hours and you wait in the room with every one else but you really arent waiting very long; i fell i was always taken in right away
6. How is the wait time for appointments? i bareley ever wait. only twice was i there for good amount of time. They apoligzed and its very rare it seems that it happens

We see Jonathan Jassey. 1. Do they do blood work and tests on site? Blood work is done on site. They even check for infections some times. 2. How are calls handled after hours or on holidays? There is an emergency line with a doctor on call and they pick up. As for holidays I believe they are open most of the holidays. 3. What is their policy on spacing out/ excluding vaccines? They want you to give vaccines but I have spaced DS out and I never have any problems. 4. Do they have separate sick/well rooms or hours? Separate rooms although to get into the offices you have to pass by the sick room, which I never understood why they don't put a door on it. 5. Are newborns seen at special times? Are children under 1 taken right into an exam room? This is my 3rd pediatrician. I only started seeing him when DS was 18 months. . but I have seen a friend of Dh there who had newborn twins and they waited for a well visit. 6. How is the wait time for appointments? We never wait that long - But, they take their time with patients and they don't rush...Especially Dr. Jassey - He is our favorite. The first time we were there for a LONG time with him

Re: Looking for any information on Dr. Grillo in Levittown or Dr. Jonathan Jassey in Bellmore.
I too go to Dr. Jassey and we love him and the entire practice. Liking all the doctors in the practice is something to think about. We started seeing Dr. Jassey but since he is so popular and only works certain days, that after I returned to work I had a hard timing getting an appointment with him. We eventually saw/met all the doctors and like all of them. Now I book appointments by what time/day works for me, not necessarily by which doctor is available.
To answer you question 5, that the above post couldn't answer, yes, they see then first thing in the morning and you wait in the well room.
They have a meet and greet once a month where you can see the practice and meet Dr. Jassey. You should call and see when the next one is.
Good luck!

Re: Looking for any information on Dr. Grillo in Levittown or Dr. Jonathan Jassey in Bellmore.
Dr. J Jassey is the freaking best. I could go on and on about how much I love that man. He is so freaking intelligent, easy going, patient, great with kids, always ready to learn something new, etc. THE BEST.
I have seen many of the doctors in the practice and I love most of them. The nurses are so sweet. The practice is very popular but they all know you.
They do many things at their offices that very few pediatricians do in their offices. Besides on site blood testing, they have a CBC so they can test for bacterias/viruses. They do early hearing & eye testing beginning at 6months. They also do cardiac testing in response to all the horrible stories of teenagers dying on the sports field. I think this starts at age 5.
I have NEVER had a problem getting an appointment, especially when my DD is sick. They are so accomodating.
My only complaint is they don't take debit/credit cards and I *always* forget my checkbook on non-well visits.
