Looking for constructive critisism on my pics
Thank you for helping!!! I tried a quick photo shoot with DS to try out different lighting. Most of these shots are blurry as he thought it was funny to kick like a maniac during the shoot. Some of the shots have my hand around the edge, just trying to put lights places. I'm just looking for opinions on which pic is best for lighting. Also, do you think with or without the hat?
I plan on reshooting tonight, as long as he's in the mood. I completely applaud those of you that can take good baby pics! 
Any tips you can give me? Should I stay with a black background or go with green?

I def like the black background. And I love the one with the hat. If it was not blurry it would have been a perfect pic.

I know you're reshooting but I love his expression in 3
I also like the layout of 4

He actually grabbed the lights and held them in a way it looks like it's around his neck. But it's inches away!

I love number 3, but can you try to spread the lights out more, they look a little clumped in the top on the left of his head.

Definitely #3. Black background with the hat.
Also try putting the light on adjoining rooms when you take the picture (not sure if you did that).

Turn your flash off, thats what causing them to be blurry rather than him moving around.

Babies move too fast to do shots with lighting that requires a slow shutter speed.
You want soft lighting so can step up your shutter speed a bit. Did you up your ISO? Cause I see graininess...
Try this instead: bounce your flash. If you can't angle the flash head - use a white index card to bounce the light. Put it right in front of the flash and angle it up toward the ceiling - you might have to play a bit before you get it right.
The other option is to bring in more lighting (but keep it soft), then you might be able to get the shot without a flash.

Thank you so much for your honest opinions!!!! It's almost dark again, so I will attempt it again. I did do the shots without the flash and tried using soft lighting in the distance. I did not think to change the ISO or to bounce the light!!!! I knew I could count on you all!!!! Thanks so much! WIsh me luck!

They look great...
My one suggestion would be to turn up the ISO setting on your camera. (ISO is the technically the film speed but digital cameras have them as well) Use the highest setting. (400 or higher) It will cut down on the blurs...You could also take advantage of some natural light by taking the pictures infront of a window on a cloudy day..That way you will see him and the glow from the Christmas lights and some really great contours from shadows.

Im wondering if he is moving b/c the lights got hot. I noticed some lights when decorating the bulbs get hot that I cant touch them decorating. Just a thought.
He is sooooooo cute!!!!!!!
