Looking for great weekend away
DH's birthday is fast approaching and I want us to go away- someplace we can drive to Friday night after work and be home Sunday evening... nothing crazy $$$... but looking for romantic and different...I knew I could count on you guys for some advice... not really in the Montauk mood right now... he likes history... was thinking of heading up to MA, but I think that's too far of a drive, right? TIA! :)

Re: Looking for great weekend away
thanks!
how's the aquarium in Mystic?
Is there a place to stay that you recommend? I just google'd and there are package deals at Best Westerns, Hyatt etc., with overnight accommodations, breakfast, and 2 aquarium tix for $200ish...

Re: Looking for great weekend away
If your DH loves history - or even likes - I def. recommend NEWPORT, RI. Take the ferry from PJ or Orient Pt, and then drive the 1.5 hours to Newport. The mansion tours are so much fun and make you feel so small - great town to eat in, and the views are beautiful!
Visit the Breakers and walk through the room made of GOLD!

Re: Looking for great weekend away
Baltimore, MD is about 3 1/2 hours away and has a very historic feel from the civil war era. We went last week and went to Fort McHenry where the original Star Spangled Banner flew. Very cool.

Check out New Hope, PA. I have been there twice this year I loved it so much. 2 hours away, great dining, shopping, wine tasting. We also went for massages, etc. We stayed in a great B&B. Perfect weekend trip.

Re: Looking for great weekend away
DH and I did a weekend trip to MA and it was great. We went to Plymouth and to that historic village...picture Old Bethpage times 1,000.... and i am blanking on the name of it!!!!! Also, we both got in free as teachers, so at least you would get that discount. it's usually $20.00 to get in. We also drove to S. Deerfield and did te Yankee Candle store and hit Northampton on the way home. Definitely doable in a weekend!

My bf is from Cape Cod, so I go there for a few days at a time. We went up the week before Easter and it was beautiful up there right now, definitely a great weekend getaway

Did you go to Old Sturbridge Village? It's one of my favorite historical places.
