Also Big Lots has some nice stuff, it is usually Ashley furniture which can be found in a lot of the big named stores. It is usually last seasons furniture.

Re: looking for inexpensive sofas...
We bought ours at the Macys Clearence Center in Westbury. A tan burber loveseat & sofa for $800 with delivery (plus I used $500 worth of gift cards so I actually only paid $300). I think Macys has the best prices and largest selection of discounted sofas. Totally worth checking out.

I third Macy's.
If you're looking for disposable -yet stylish- furniture, check out Ikea.

We did too, we looked everywhere because we knew exactly what we wanted and they had it for a decent price, delivery on time and they were very helpful :)

Definitely try Big Lot's - we got our living room set there for $700 and people constantly comment on what a nice set it is.

Re: looking for inexpensive sofas...
I got a red, leather couch at Seaman's clearence center for $325. It had a small black pen mark that was going to cost me $100 to get out...still a good deal IMO.
But....
When they delivered the couch, they ripped it going up the stairs so they had to give us a brand new one (and a perfect one!) for free. woo-hoo!

Definitely Jennifer Convertibles. You can get an entire living room furnished for under 1500.
