Looking for some feedback/help on DD's 1st b-day theme
I can't even believe I'm thinking about this--it's freakin' 4 months away, but since the guest list is at 100 I probably have no choice but to have it at a place (as much as I HATE that thought) and May books up quickly I'm sure.
OK, so originally, I wanted to do either a Cinco de Mayo theme or a Harry Truman/Presidential theme. I believe Cinco de Mayo is better suited to an outdoor party, so I've pretty much scrapped that plan and well, Harry Truman paper goods aren't all the rage
So, first question...what do you think about an "Abby's Kentucky Derby" theme? I'd have it ON the day, if not, then the following Saturday. I know it's unusual, but I'm not necessarily into the kiddie stuff for a 1st b-day, etc. etc.
Next question...do you have any suggestions for activities--something for kids and adults? We are thinking of a dice/horse race game in which dice are tossed and you move your horse, etc. I've also seen "Horse Bingo" which might be fun for kids and adults too. We could also bet on the actual race if it's on the day I suppose? Is this too much?
Any other feedback GREATLY appreciated!

I think it's a really cute idea, and different. You could get cute horse decorations too.
Oh, and don't people wear their fancy hats to the Kentucky Derby? Maybe you could request that people wear their coolest/nicest/most fun hats?

I agree!!
ETA that you could totally have a BLAST using the whole Kentucky Derby theme!
You can request that guests wear big hats to the party, you can serve mint juleps and you can hand out tickets to each person that comes in and have a raffle! Sort of like a chinese auction?
As for the kiddies, you can do pretty much ANYTHING. Can you rent an inflatable for them? or perhaps hire someone to face paint or do balloon animals or tattoos?
Good luck! it sounds like it's going to be a blast!

This doesn't really fit your theme, but I was just at a party where we made scrapbook pages for the birthday boy. The mom took pictures of us, and we decorated the page - It was so cute to see all of the pages together - It captured the whole day!
ETA - She had a whole table set up with paper, sticker's, glue.. all kinds of stuff.
BTW - I'm a Harry Truman fan - Read his biography. LOL!

I have been there. My parents took us on cross country trips twice and this was one of the stops.
