Looking for some guidance...
I am FINALLY going back to school. Empire State College..online. My goal is to get my bachelors and then my masters in education so I can teach.
Originally, I had wanted to get a bachelors in psych..but after reading and reading, I decided to email my mentor and ask her if this was the right path to choose. Her advice..was that my bachelors should be in a "subject area." Does this mean like science, math, etc?
I dont see that Empire State offers English which upsets me because thats what I would like to focus on most.
Has anyone gone to Empire State with the intention on getting a masters in elementary education? If so, what did you major in. I guess this question can go out to people who havent gone to just Empire State..but other colleges as well. I am just confused about the major in a subject area part .Thanks.

I agree with your mentor; get your degree in a content area that you could teach, e.g. history, English, math. Then you can do your Masters in education and receive your certification. You want to think about job possibilities once you finish, and certain areas are in higher demand than others. Elementary education is by no means a high need area. Consider special education, ESL, math, science, or foreign language (if you speak one). Working towards certification in one of these areas will increase your chances of finding a job once you finish your education.
Best of luck!
