looking for what town to move to?
does anyone know of a site that tells you about the neignborhood you are looking. right now dh and i live in lynbrrok - i work in melville - i hate the commute almosta n hour each way - dh commutes to merrick, needless to say he loves the commute lol.... he was born and raised in massapequa park -- and has blinders on --- massapequa park is the ONLY PLACE THAT HE WANTS TO CONSIDER...
its very frustrating - because although massapequa park is a beautiful place to live - i think it is very expensive and our money could go further elsewher - i was thinking like western suffolk... does anyone have reccomendations of towns that they live in or like in western suffolk... or a site where i can look up info about them..
trying to show my dh that there are other places to buy a house

Re: looking for what town to move to?
How frustrating.
Can I suggest Bethpage or Farmingdale? I live in Bethpage and I find the homes a little less expensive. I love the area and the community.
Massapequa is great but there are other areas to consider.
It would be a closer commute for you and not that bad for him.

Re: looking for what town to move to?
babylon is really nice, reasonably priced and the commute would not be too bad. North babylon schools often have trouble passing their budgets so it would not look there but the other areas are great. good luck!

Of course this is a hard thing to ask. Lots of people will suggest areas that you might go NO WAY...
Or people are going to suggest the area they live in and that is what I am going to do LOL
I live in Levittown. I have a cape and lots of Lif'ers live in Levittown

I suggest Levittown - It is a great community. We have lived here almost 1 year and we love it. Houses are affordable, and the people are great. Scott

Re: looking for what town to move to?
I grew up in Massapequa Park...Loved living there...great schools, great towns and nice people. Mass pk is a little cheaper that massapequa b/c its an incorporate village, so you get a little break in taxes...I would suggest also looking at the surrounding towns...Seaford, Farmingdale, Bethpage, Planview, Wantagh

If you want to go into Western Suffolk West babylon is a nice town. The schools are pretty good too and very affordable.

Re: looking for what town to move to?
thank you for all of your answers.... iit is just the most frustrating thing since normally he is very go with the flow - he is insistent upon this.... if i looked into the babylon area - is there any area that can be considered nicer than others - for example north or south of montauk highway?

Re: looking for what town to move to?
Seriously...give him time. I once thought I was only going to stay in the town we're in and DH used to tell me I needed to open my mind into other communities.... Now as time goes on I see that I can definitley get more house for our money elsewhere.

Re: looking for what town to move to?
We were originally looking only in Bellmore, Wantagh, Merrick and maybe Massapequa. We looked and looked and found nothing we could afford. A new realtor took us to the Bethpage area and it was great. We saw 5 homes we could afford and put bids on 2 of them and got them. We were so happy and it turned out to be a great community as well. Sometimes you have to venture out of your original plan.

Re: looking for what town to move to?
I agree with the areas that you have heard about: Wantagh, Bellpage, Seaford and Bellmore. I would really like to know more about Babylon - I am concerned with schoold. I looked in Farmingdale and we saw crap in the $400-$440 price range. I wasn't too impressed with the area (don't mean to offend anyone).
We're looking to move back sfrom upstate so I've been wondering the same thing.
I love these types of posts. I'll keep your screen name in mind. What's you price range??? This could make a huge difference.

I would visit all the above areas before ruling it out.
Not that im offended, but I am from Farmingdale, and its a great place to live. but everyone has their own opinions, so go check it out first!

Agreed, I was bent on not going to Bethpage at first, heard some not so great things, but it turned out great. You never know.

I am also from Farmingdale and I am not offended by what you said because everyone has their own opinion and sometimes if you get a bad taste of a town it is hard to change your mind. But I will say that in that price range it is hard to find something that is nice. I think if you look between $450k and $500k you get a better selection. West Farmingdale is really nice so are the homes in Lenox Hills but those are over $600K.
