don't know where you are planning on adopting from but the city shelters are kill shelters---so keep that in mind! :) maybe you can save one from there-they will help with transport and you can get help from a rescue as well

I would def go with a boy then. Females are notorious for not wanting other females around.

I'm actually not quite sure, but I know of 12 cats who are looking for homes (obviously, they will likely have to be separated) because their owner had to go into a nursing home if you're interested.

looking to adopt a kitten, but...
I have two girls...and 3/4 of the time, they are totally indifferent to each other... but that other 1/4 - they're hissing, chasing.. I'd probably do a girl and boy next time.

I have 2 female cats. Kitty #1 was 5 years old when we got kitty #2 (who was 2 years old when we got her). The first few days, they hissed and tried to fight (however - i think kitty #1 would have done the same with a male! she's a bit of a princess). Now, 3 years later, they are indifferent to each other. They aren't best friends but never fight or anything like that either. It was only rough for the first 2-3 weeks really.

I would suggest not getting a kitten. The hyperness may be too much for your cat. I would suggest a 1yr old or older. When my cat was 2 we adopted a 1yr old and after some fighting they got along. We got a kitten a couple of years later and my older ones were not happy. Kitten was too much for them. It's how we ended up with 4 cats we ended up getting another kitten to calm the other one down. Now the girl tolerates the boys but the boys love each other.

My girl is a princess too and I doubt she would have been happy with another girl. I'd go boy.

Typically boys get along the best. I would get a boy. Two girls (from what I hear) is the hardest combination.
From personal experience, I have 1 girl and 3 boys. The boys get along .... the girl tolerates one of the boys and doesn't like the other two! but we were advised to get boys....

The easiest way to add a second cat is to get a young kitten of the opposite sex. However really, a young kitten (around 12 weeks) should be viewed by your cat as a baby regardless of sex. You should read up on proper introductions. Sometimes they get along right away and sometimes it doesn't go so well and takes a while. Doing it the right way the first time can make it go much faster :o)

I agree with everyone else, I would get a male. I have 2 boys and 1 girl and the boys are currently snuggled up together sleeping while my girl is sleeping under the tree. She loves 1 of the boys (bc he is her littermate) and hates the other one lol.

I agree... We got our male kitten when our adult female was 8 yrs old. She nurtured the hell out of the kitten as if she was the mother... Most adorable thing ever... Se still does it 4 years later... H has a ton more energy and always wants to pay with her and I'd say most of the time she's running from him LOL but she does get playful and chase him around at times... Good combination
