looking to make extra money...anyone sell avon/mary kay/etc?

I don't have the time to host parties etc, like people who work for lia sophia, pampered chef do. I am a full time teacher but EVERYONE could use a little extra cash these days ya know? (especially now with DD) So I was thinking about becoming a representative for something like avon. Anyone do this? Any tips or info?

I do Avon, Mary kay and I used to sell Home Interiors. With Avon and Mary Kay you can make a lot with the holidays coming (valentines, and Mother's day). But for now I work at home for Direct Tv through a company called west at home. The website is www.westathome.com or you can check 1800 flowers because they are hiring for work at home customer reps for the coming holidays...

The only thing I know about Mary Kay is that the kits you need to buy (in order to sell the stuff) is kind of expensive.

We have a friend whose wife sold MK and he said they were in for over $1000!

That seemed like a bit much to me.

i sell marykay and its not expensive. they have you buy the 100 starter kit that gives you tons of stuff and then if you sell 200 dollars worth of stuff you get 50% off thats how you make your money.

My friend sold Mary Kay after her kids were born to make some extra cash, but she never really did that well with it and she did host parties and made her money thru hosting the parties, you know?

I sell Mary Kay too! I really love it- and find its an easy sell!

I sell avon...it can make you money..but it's kinda hard. at the begining, the first 2 months, you make 50% of your sales. Then after that it's based on how much you sell...you have to sell at least $500 per campaign...which is A LOT and avon products are not expensive..so it's hard. I don't really make much money...I do it because I basically get my products for free!

I know ppl who have made a lot of money with it..but it takes a lot of work to do that...building a customer base and such.

I did MK for a little while in college. It was like a cult (my personal experience at least)

I tried Avon for 18 months. I found that I was just making enough to buy product for myself and not much more.
I had given myself that time block and stopped selling after that because it just wasn't worth it.
Plus, you do have to pass out brochures either by leaving them on doors or finding businesses who will allow you to leave catalogs.

use to do avon but didn't have much luck with it.

Currently doing pampered chef and while yes, you do have to do parties...I've def. had more success with that & I actually enjoy doing it. (although I've kinda slacked off the month of january )

What about Arbonne? While the products are more $$ you might earn better with them. You could also sign up as a business on LIF and see how that works. I'm still throwing the idea around for myself, it's not that much $$ and so worth it in my opinion. (even though I have yet to decide!)

The key is finding different outlets. I made a facebook page for my pampered chef business, while it hasn't brought me business yet, I find it a good way to get information out there. (just put it up like a month ago)

If you sell avon, I would try selling products on craigslist. I won't do that for pampered chef b/c I don't want to have to go to a strangers house from craigslist, that freaks me out but selling a product and mailing it from there isn't a bad idea.

ETA: as a teacher don't forget you can use your business for fundraising too. Any of them....avon, arbonne, PC..etc...etc..
