Looks like DS is getting spring break back
I just heard that DS school district will be giving back spring break. Apparently the details have not been worked out yet, but the kids are going to spend an extra 15 minutes or so in school to make up the 3 days. We already have a trip planned so I'm glad DS won't miss those days. We always pull him for a week in June so I'm glad he won't miss that extra time in April too. How are your districts handling it?
Update- I got the email yesterday that for 5 weeks the kids will be in school for an additional 25 minutes to make up the lost time.

Do you not have days worked into the calendar?
We have three worked into our calendar. We don't use them...they get them off. We missed 4. I understand they will be adding one day. They have not decided when that will be yet.

Re: Looks like DS is getting spring break back
We are in NJ and our district took away part of Spring Break and extended the school year to June 20th. We missed 10 days due to snow and a pipe that burst in the school.

We had 3 days worked in but we used 6. Our school year already runs to June 27, so they can't add on to the end. So they initially lost 3 days of spring break. Hopefully they just extend the day and give back the break.

Interesting. It hasn't happened to us but I did hear in the past they have extended the school year. We go to the 26th but I have never heard that a district won't add days at the end.

I "believe" they're not allowed to go into July. We started school late this year because of the Jewish holidays and that's why it runs so late. We used to finish a week earlier.

Re: Looks like DS is getting spring break back
We have 3 days built in, so we owe 1. Not sure if they are taking Spring Break, or if the kids will go in on a staff development day.
As for adding days on, I haven't heard of anyone having to do that. Many are adding minutes on though in other states.

We had 3 days built in and we used one extra. They had the monad after easter off and now they are going to school that day.
My vote is to get rid of February break and use those extra days as snow days. If they aren't used then extend on to memorial day or something.

Wait you started a week after us but only go one day later? Luckily!! We started the day after Labor Day, and went Tuesday and Wednesday that week and still go until the 26th.

Most districts won't add onto the end of the year because the days usually need to be made up before the regents exams.

I think it depends on the district. Our district has Extended School Year and a Camp that starts right after school ends so there is no way to extend. It's kind of a waste to add to the end anyway. The kids in Jr. High and High School need the time during the year to learn for their regents/finals not days at the end when they are finished and going is irrelevant.

The kids don't go in through right? So how does that even count as 180 days of instruction if the students aren't present?

Re: Looks like DS is getting spring break back
They probably made a superintendents day a regular day and then added the staff development day at the end.

No, I have no idea but they don't have to go...that is all I care about.
This is all it says...
Due to the difficult winter weather, four days of school were cancelled.... The calendar will be adjusted to make up these days. April 21st and 22nd and May 23rd will now be full days of school. Additionally, Friday, June 27th will be used as a staff development day for faculty and paraprofessionals.

Not sure we had three days worked in for snow. We lost those. No idea if any where staff development days. I just know we didn't have to be there
