looks like DS will be getting OT, need some help

DS is 3.5. way back in OCt, his preschool teacher called me and said she thinks i should get an eval for speech therapy, he is a little unlcear. and then said, as long as I was doing hte eval, do an OT also- she said he can get focused on one thing, and ignores everything else, and has a very hard time when told no- major tantrums ,ro jsut ignores it. ok, so icall the district, request an eval. then Sandy hit, my district was hti really hard, and to make a long story short, the evals were FINALL done last week. after my hounding the district.
anyhow, since oct, hsi speech has gotten much better, and evaluator told me she is not recommending services. so no speech. however, the OT eval todl me she IS going to recommend OT. i wasw really suprised. said he was not focused during hte eval, had trouble following directions. also said he has poor grasp skills, has trouble holding a pen, trouble with a scissor, and doesnt have a dominant hand- still uses right and left.
eta: btw, when i spoke to ds's teacher after, she told me she was pretty suprised by the scissor/pen thing, that most of the boys niteh class are still scribbling.
now, i wasnt thrilled wit he the OT eval. first, they did the eval in the PT room, so my poor son jsut kept wanting to get up and use the trampoline, climbing blocks, so on. also, she was kind of rough with DS, not warm at all. bordering on yelling at him a couple of times. and i honestly felt she was stretching - i happen to be ambidextrous, and i saw that its still normal not to have hand dominance at 3.5. but hey, if they want ot give him services, why not.
so heres the questions. my meeting with the district is mid feb. if he scored above average in the pysch/cognitive eval, will he still get hte OT? do I need to pick an agency/therapist to use at the meeting? how long after the meeting should services start?

From the way I understand things, the committee decides (with your input of course) if he is going to get services. Not the evaluators.

With my son, services started pretty much right away. I liked the agency that did the evals so I went with them.

If you weren't thrilled with how the evaluation was conducted, say that.

If you have concerns that they are stretching to justify providing services on their end, say that too.

While getting services can certainly be a positive thing, I tend to agree with you about certain people being quick to label, especially little boys.

Also, if you weren't thrilled with the agency that did the evals, definitely look into going elsewhere.

I have a rec if you want it.
