Looks like the old Mets are back
I do not like the acquisition of Jorge Julio. I have a feeling he's going to screw up a lot this season. I know you can't just someone on one game, but his numbers from last year seem very unimpressive.

Re: Looks like the old Mets are back
Juilo f'in blows bigtime.
But there is not much you can do. Wagner should have saved it and gave up a moonshot.
I'll live with it for now... knowing Wags only gave up 8 HRs all last season pitching in that Philly bandbox.
But he has to get his velocity up. 92 is not going to cut it when you know he is capable of 100.

I love Wagner, but after last night he did look a lot like Benitez. I though the days of nail biting in the ninth inning were over.

Re: Looks like the old Mets are back
let's see
they've played 2 games
won 1 game lost one game
they're not going to win every game
was it a bad loss? sure
but it's one game out of 162

Or the days of Looper...

Re: Looks like the old Mets are back
I'll be happy once Wags gets his fastballs up to the hi-90s. If he can only hit 93 max (which is what he did last night)... there will be troubles.

Re: Looks like the old Mets are back
i think the thing that has everyone so bent out of shape is the fact that this happened so early in the season, when the wounds of looper remain fresh.
i think if this had happened later in the season, it wouldnt be much of an issue.
let's not forget a couple of key things:
They had a 4-0 lead. Bannister, a rookie, gave up 3 runs before Wagner even got out there. Where's the blame there?
As for Wagner, anyone who doesn't think that he will NEVER blow a save, is crazy. It's just the timing of it that got everyone up in arms.
and i notice that a certain someone is not even mentioning the fact that beltran has absolutely S*CKED so far. 2 men on and no out in the bottom of the 1st and he strikes out?????? Please.
Folks, they're not going to win every day. Please let's not say that it's the same team just yetm with the season less than a week old.

Re: Looks like the old Mets are back
It's not Wagner I have a problem with. What I hate is that the Mets constantly pick up awful relievers who can't handle the middle (or extra) innings. I think Wagner will be fine. I worry that Jorge Julio will blow a lot more games though.

This is really not the Mets fault. They picked up who they could.
EVERY team needs middle relievers. If you think the Mets bullpen is bad... believe me the Yankee bullpen is worse.

That may be true, but the Yankees seem to be better at scoring runs and making things happen. I think there will be fewer opporunities for their bullpen to blow close games.
I guess I'm just getting sick of watching the Mets relievers blow games.
