loooong car trip w/3 month old DD....

We are driving 900 miles over the next two days, with 3 month old DD in tow. I'm so stressed, wondering why in the world I agreed to this. We are going to see my parents and all the other family members who havent even met DD yet. Trying to pack tonight, get ready for work tomorrow, take care of DD....I don't even know where to begin!!!!

Any advice on traveling with babies this little? We are planning on stopping every 3 hours or so. Depending on how she does, we will drive as far as we can tomorrow afternoon/evening and then get a hotel. Then get up early Friday morning (whenever DD gets up, usually around 6am) and drive the rest of the way. Any tips?????

We travelled with DS when he was 7.5 months old on a 425 mile trip. We drove strictly at night though this way we knew he would sleep the entire trip.

My suggestion is to stop as often as needed to feed your DD but otherwise she will be fine. You may find her sleeping more in the car then if you were home.

Safe driving

Thank you!!!! Driving at night makes sense....Im thinking she will sleep all day in the car then be ready to party by the time we get to the hotel. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

We drive to Florida every year. The youngest our kids have been were 9 months when we went.

We leave NY around 5, stop at the last rest stop in Jersey for dinner and once we hit the road again, all the kids fall asleep, and by the time we wake up, we're in Florida! Much easier when they are sleeping!

DH and I take approx 5 hours shifts, but if we start to feel tired, we switch and make sure we sleep while the other is driving. It's a pretty easy drive and I'm not sure where you are going, but this works really well for us.

It wont be as bad as I'm sure you're anticipating it to be. I bet your DC will sleep most of the time.

We drove from WI to south Florida when DS was 5 months old. We drove through the night though, rather than drive during the day. He was awesome!! Slept the entire time. My older DD on the other hand...Chat Icon

Be careful doing the night drive. It can backfire.. We took DS to Disney at 4.5 months. We left at 5am. He slept on and off through out the trip. We took 2 overnights going down. We stopped every 3 hours for a bit. Changed him and fed him.. He STTN for the whole trip. First time he ever STTN.. A friend of mine did the same trip around the same age and left at 9pm and the kid screamed the whole time.. They ended up stopping in a hotel in Maryland for the rest of the night and started fresh in the morning.. I also hate driving at night, it screws ME up for days...At such a young age, it can e pretty easy for long trips...Good luck.

We drove to South Carolina, straight through, when Ann was only two months old, with a large chocolate lab and I was breast feeding ... and it wasn't any worse than the trip usually is!!!

It was actually better for me since we *had* to make more stops than usual Chat Icon Oh, I was pumping using the cigarette lighter adapter too!!

We drove to VA when dd was 12 weeks- it was an 8 hour drive. We left about 10 pm and stopped 2x. She slept most of the time. She woke up about 5 am. Once we got to my sil house, she fell back asleep.

Re: loooong car trip w/3 month old DD....

Each of our kids did their first car trip at 6 weeks old-we traveled NC to upstate NY to LI and then back to NC.

Honestly, at that age, it seems easier. They are not fussing to get out and walk, run around. I think it's a good idea to take lots of rest breaks so everyone can stretch.

When we had just one DC, one of us would sit in the back with her to get her paci or hold her hand, etc.

I think you will be fineChat Icon
