Losing weight before TTC
DH and I are planning to TTC this week, but Im kind of debating whether I should wait until next month...Im trying to lose 10lbs as I really am afraid to gain a lot of weight from the pregnancy...as a matter of fact I am petrified! I just lost appx 20lbs before my wedding and gained a few back...
Do you think 10lbs will make a difference...my doctor says no but he said I was fine even when I was 20lbs heavier!
I appreciate your advice! Thanks!

Re: Losing weight before TTC
I understand your concern...I am 30 pds over weight...at least by my standards...and I want to lose at least 20 before getting pregnant but I'm afraid to excercise since excercising after not doing it for a long time messes with my cycle and afraid to diet because I don't want to be pregnant (not knowing) and not eating right.
So what I have been doing is watching what eat and I'm going to start going to the gym but only doing light excercise (like 30 min on the treadmil walking fast)

Re: Losing weight before TTC
I am in the same boat. DH & I will not be TTC until the summer but I want to drop the weight I have gained back since the wedding. I know I am capable of doing it & would much rather do it now then at the end of the pregnancy.

Re: Losing weight before TTC
I was in the same boat. I wanted to lose 10lbs and my Dr. told me I was just fine the way I was (although I was almost 20lbs heavier than my wedding weight).
I lost the 10lbs and although I am still well into the normal range for my body I found my cycles not to be as regular anymore and i even had a slight vitamin deficiency!
So now, I've split the difference... Point being, although we all strive to be at our lower end of our range before ttc so we won't get as fat, I think our bodies might like us on the higher end. This could just be me though!

Re: Losing weight before TTC
If the doctor says you are fine, then odds are you are fine. If anyone knows the fear of regaining weight, It would be me. As a gastric bypass patient having lost 115 pounds, the thought of having a big belly again scares the bejeezus out of me. Even though I know there would be a child inside and not unhealthy weight, I am not ready to see myself as large again. I am sure the comments will fly (like "Oh you are fat again just like old times) and they are just as hurtful.
If you tend to gain weight quickly, then be careful when you DO get pregnant. The heavier you are when you start your pregnancy, the less they say you should gain.

Re: Losing weight before TTC
You could go on Weight Watchers which is a healthy eating plan and use the nursing mothers plan. My leader told me this although they don't "officially" allow PG women to join.

Re: Losing weight before TTC
I would not stress my body with a diet for 10 Lbs. I would watch what I am doing and make healthier choices.

Re: Losing weight before TTC
I would not put off TTC to lose a little unless it was recommended. Doctors these days don't really let preggos get to big. I am monitored every 2 weeks, its like a more stern WW meeting
