Love my MIL...but
Well, my MIL has been AWESOME with helping out giving the boys a bath, letting me get out and go to the store and sleeping during the day. But Matthew sneezes, which the ped says it is normal for infants to sneeze, becaus they are clearing out their mucus. Well, when he does sneeze, she bundles him up and says he is getting a cold, and raises our heat all the way up to 80 degress. Jay and I went to the store real quick and when we came back the house was a suana
She also thinks that when we burp the, we are being to harsh?? That is what the nurses said to do, and especially Christopher because he is so gassy. Just had to vent Am I overreacting??

Re: Love my MIL...but
Do we happen to have the same MIL??? Mine would do the same thing, I don't think you are overreacting. What other posters reminded me was that they mean well, just kindly remind her that even the peds recommends the temp to be 72 to 75, at least that is what my ped recommends.

Actually germs thrive in warmer heat, so cooler is better

I would listen to the doctors and nurses over my MIL. Turn that heat down and open some windows!!

Re: Love my MIL...but
Babies sneezing is normal and the safest temperature in the house is around 70 degrees (especially when they are sleeping) because if it is too hot it increases the risk of SIDS.

Re: Love my MIL...but
I had this with my mom not mil lol and it was frustrating as if they know what is better then the pediatrician and it doesnt get better my son is 2 1/ 2and still get second guessed on things like his speech when doc says its ok and im just waiting for this baby to be born so it can start all over again. just best advice i have is let it go in one ear and out the other you are the mom you know best and sneezing is normal.

Oh God you just described my mother. We've had the AC on all summer which the doctor said is ok. Everytime Matthew sneezed my mom would be like "you see he's catching a cold cuz you have the room too cold for him"
About the burping I pat DS hard, not hard to the point where i'm giving him black and blues. So MIL, DH, and one of my aunts say i'm hitting him to hard...that's how they showed me at the hospital. Matthew gets gassy too.
Geez they make it seem like I am killing him...
I always tell them that if they don't like it then they don't have to watch him being "tortured"...LOL

You are not overreacting. You know your children best. The heat thing would drive me nuts. Have your husband tell her not to put the heat past a certain point, she'll have to respect that.

No, I don't think you are overreacting, but I don't think it is worth getting into a fight over. Also, I read (and you can use it with your MIL) that when burping, you are supposed to pat hard enough to hear it across the room, but not in the NEXT room!
