Low Cost Vet

Hi all,

I have a ten year old lab mix who has been having a lot of problems with her rear legs. I know it has to do with age, but I don't know if she is in pain or how much she is suffering.

I want to take her to a vet, but I know I really don't have to money to pay hundreds for a visit and possibly thousands for a treatment.

Any advice?

Have you tried glucosamine? Trader Joe's sells pet ones.

Low Cost Vet

Dasuquin (over the counter vitamin) from petmeds.com or the local vet is good for that....but If it's her age she will probably need a prescription anti-inflammatory such as deramaxx or rimydal (my dogs are on that). Here are some low cost vets:

On this list brown dog foundation mentions prescription meds low cost

Best of luck! :)

Re: Low Cost Vet

I think a good vet will be honest and realistic with you.

We have a 10 year old pug who went blind suddenly.

They did some tests and saw a spot on his liver.

They recommended going to a specialist.

We love him but he's a 10 year old pug. I told them we want him to be comfortable and live out his life but we can't afford to spend 1000s when he's at the end of his life anyway.

They understood and gave us meds to make him comfortable if he becomes anxious or is in pain.

We use Massapequa Pet Vet.

I do have friends who also call around and compare prices.

On average I think most LI vets cost around the same.
