Low-Key 40th Birthday Party Ideas
DH is turning 40 at the end of next year. He wants to go away for it just the two of us, but I still want to have some sort of party for him. It would be small with probably just friends. So maybe 20-25 people total. I don't mind the idea of having kids because we all have them and it would just be easier. Has anyone done anything low-key besides a backyard-type party? We're South Shore Suffolk, but spend a lot of time out on the forks.

Low-Key 40th Birthday Party Ideas
I did a backyard party when DH turned 40. It was in July. I rented a tent in case it rained with table and chairs.
I made all the food and my brother was nice enough to grill. I did hire a friend to bartend and did hire someone to clean up. It really helped me out because I was able to enjoy the party and not run after every single dish and have to keep up. Just something to keep in mind.

Has he mentioned that he doesn’t want a party. I abhor parties, and I prefer to just go away with someone. I would absolutely hate a party. Really feel him out for what he wants.

Me: Do you want a party too?
Him: Ehhhh.....
Interpretation: I'm not particularly into the idea but won't hate it if you threw one for me.
I am just having friends, our families are both full of drama at the moment and I want DH to be able to enjoy the evening without the anxiety of who is going to act up, or what's going to be awkward.

if he's up for it, or will be a willing participant, i really like the idea of a backyard party... even at the end of the year. tents can make any outside space cozy and give it a touch of class.
this was something i considered for SO's 50th.

Re: Low-Key 40th Birthday Party Ideas
I like the idea of a summer backyard party. We did that last summer for DH's 40th. It was a "beer" theme and low key. I got pretzels from Philly Pretzels, ordered some subs, made mini hotdogs, pasta salads, and lots of beers in the cooler. Nothing crazy, but fun and low key. We have a pool so kept it open and turned up the heat and even set up some tables for beer pong or flip cup. Had a ton of chips and dips and some hot dips too.

What about a brewery? I've been to Great South Bay Brewery in Bay shore and Its a big room can be completely casual.

Re: Low-Key 40th Birthday Party Ideas
My dh turns 40 in 3 weeks. We are going to a Mets game at citifield. I just got group tickets for family and 3 friends and added money onto the tickets for food. We have access to an indoor club if it’s too cold. Is he into sports? Maybe something like that.
