Re: low platelets
I had low platelets...they did a CBC an additional time and checked it in the hospital during L&D. Everything was fine though.
After I gave birth, they did a CBC on my son before he was circumcised to make sure his were OK since mine were still low.

Re: low platelets
at the end of my pregnancy (which was 32-33 weeks) my platelets were very low due to preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome. they were so low that i couldnt get anything but general anestesia for my c-section. they remained low after the surgery and i lost a lot of blood and ended up needing 4 bags of blood and one bag of platelets. if your platelets are extremely low (mine were in the 20s at one point - normal is over 150) your choices of pain meds may be limited at delivery.

Re: low platelets
I was told I had slightly low platelets around 28 weeks. I was at 134,000 and normal is above 150,000. Two weeks later I was at 122,000. Now I'm 35 weeks and I took a major drop to 80,000. I am being monitored by a hematologist. I've been told by my doctors that the anesthesiologists at my hospital will not do an epidural under 80 or 90,000. So things aren't looking good for me. The hematologist said that there isn't much I can do to raise my levels and they would only intervene if they went below 50,000 with steroids or a blood transfusion because at that point it becomes a safety issue for delivery in general.
