Lower back pain
After an intense weight training session over a week ago I have been feeling pain in my lower back. It is so darrn uncomfortable to sit, stand etc...all except lay down.
I went for a massage on Sunday, but Im actually in more pain since then.
Any suggestions or ideas to get through this??
Thanks

Re: Lower back pain
First off, I'm sorry you're in pain. Have you tried alternating heating and icing the area? I've had 2 major back surgeries so unfortunately I'm all too familiar with this kind of discomfort. The heat and ice usually helped a bit as did elevating my feet when I was sitting down. If it continues longer than a couple of days, maybe see a specialist to make sure you haven't hurt yourself worse than anything minor.

Thanks, I will try to heat and ice...I'm on a business trip so it's tough but I will try to do it.
What kind of doctor would I go to? My internist wouldn't have a clue I feel like???

Re: Lower back pain
If you go to a pharmacy, they probably have travel versions of a heating pad and ice pack. If your hotel room doesn't have a refrigerator, the front desk can probably heat them or freeze them for you.
I would start with an orthopedist. Maybe one who is familiar with injuries sustained through working out or running. Other people may recommend a chiro but I did not have good experiences with them so I stay away. It could very well be muscular but you want to rule out anything else.

Re: Lower back pain
I go to a chiropractor and he helps me a lot. When I have pain he always suggests using ice. Usually a chiro will want to take Xrays to see whats going on first. He's in Sayville, FM me if you want more info. Feel better!

Re: Lower back pain
I would also say no chiro. it's immediate, but temporary relief. Your internist can refer you to a Physical Therapist. I have had much better results with a PT compared to a chiro with my lower back issues.
an anti-inflamatory (motrin, advil - might help in the meantime - and reese's advice of hot and cold. if you can do only one, my PT always recommended cold - she said they both do the say thing (make your muscles change size -expand/contract - and come back), but cold does it faster.
feel better!
