Lump on his head
When Cailen was born, I noticed he had a soft, fleshy lump in the back of his head... I assumed it was just part of the lumps babies have... and I figured he was being checked by the ped and they never said anything about it.... He still has it, and someone was over today, holding his head, and asking me about it and suggested that I check it out... It didn't worry me until she mentioned it, so I called the ped, and I'm waiting for them to call me back...
But - should I be concerned?

Re: Lump on his head
You said it's soft? Steven has a lump on the back of his head as well. But it's pretty hard.
I'm going to try to find a picture.

its very soft... its a small golf-ball sized ( smaller - but defintiely round and prominent) that is just a little bulb on top of his head - I figured because its so soft and mushy, I shouldnt worry about it - maybe its a fatty tumor or something... I'm still waiting to hear from the ped....

Re: Lump on his head
This is Steven's bump, also about golf sized. I can't remember if it was soft, but it may have been. he had lots of hair so you couldn't really see it.
Thsi is the best pic I can find. You can see it under the swirl in his hair.

Is cailen's head flat at all?
I know where Steven's bump is from. One side of his head is flat. he was born with it like that and it got worse because he always laid on the flat side, which made it flatter. The ped said that it is from his head getting flat on one side, it kind of like pushed that part of the head out. He is getting a little better, but still has the bump and now has to go to the neurologist.
That's why I ask if his head is flat on one side, because that would explain it.
Please don't let this worry you. I think Steven's bump was hard from the beginning, I don't really remember. Just wait to see what his ped says.

Re: Lump on his head
Hmmm.. Cailen's head is really not flat anywhere - I was really not too concerned until I was told I really should look into it, then I got a little worried - but I'll wait until i hear from the ped - I mean, Cailen is very alert and totally normal in terms of his behavior, so i dont think its affecting him.... so I'll have to wait and see....

Re: Lump on his head
My friends little boy has a calcified lump on his head from birth, I believe it was soft when he was smaller. Its quite big now and she will probably have it removed surgically when he is a little bit older. Its not attached to the skull, it move around when you push it. He was a venteuse I believe...I would make sure you push this issue with your doctor when you see the ped soon.
