Lunch on Sunday

Can anyone suggest a nice (but inexpensive place for DH and I to have lunch on Sunday afternoon? Looking for something in the Nassau area. Somewhere not to far from Garden City. TIA

I LOVE West End Cafe in Carl Place on Glen Cove Rd!! Just call before to make sure they aren't closed for a party!

Really? We walked out because their service was horrendous. Probably the worst I've ever experienced.

Just a lunch date. No special occasion. We are making it our priority this year to go out on dates each month. Chat Icon

We went this summer two times, both afteroons, with only 2 or 3 tables occupied. So maybe that was why we had no problems with the service. Was it very busy when you went?

Also if you like pizza, Grimaldi's in Garden City on Franklin is a cute place. Only serve pizza, salads and calzones though. Very informal and casual but very friendly in there.

The Carle Place Diner has good food and is very central if youare just making it casual, midday lunch..as diners go, it's very good.

Re: Lunch on Sunday

If you don't mind chains, I also love Houstons in Garden City, attached to the mall. Might be crowded though.

We went this past fall in the early evening and the reason why we chose the restaurant was because it was practically empty whereas all the others in GC were packed and had a 20-30 minute wait.

There were only 3 occupied tables when we walked in and the hostess immediately asked us if we had a reservation. We said no and were getting ready to leave (we were turned off by her attitude) when she said "I'll see if I can find you a table."

She sat us and then it took 20 minutes before they took our drink order. Took another 15 for our drinks to come out. They never even took our appetizer or a dinner order throughout that time, so we decided to pay for our drinks and leave. We didn't want to wait another hour for dinner.

We found even the wait staff to be very rude, including the busboy.

Normally my DH and I would give a place a second chance, but I don't care how good their food might have been, it wouldn't have made up for the poor service and behavior.

I guess the fact that the place was empty should have been a clear indicator to us.

That was a really bad experience! I don't blame you one bit. I would never go back there if that happened to me either.

We didn't have bad service at all (but certainly would not call it phenomenal service either), but it WAS empty as you said. I wonder if anyone else has any stories/experiences there?

Well the OP wanted something near GC, which Bethpage really isn't.

But we just tried Singleton's last week and really liked it a lot.
