lunches if you are in a nut free class and have dairy and other allergies.
If you are in a peanut/nut free class and your DC is allergic to milk and eats a lot or peanut butter (can't eat soynut butter) what did you pack for your DC's lunches? I don't want to give her turkey sandwiches every day. She is also allergic to chocolate, oranges, strawberries and shellfish.
She does eat a lot of fruit and carrots so I will be packing that. But I don't want to give her cold cuts every day.
She does not like dairy free cheeses or soy cream cheese.
Etd to add they have to bring snack every day and they want healthy ones only asked to send fruit, cheese or veggies. Since she can't have the cheese and I'm packing fruit and veggies for lunch - suggestions?

Does she like hummus or the dairy free yogurt (So Delicious, etc.)? My dd eats hummus with cucumbers and carrots for lunch a lot.

They have sunflower seed butter, pear butter, apple butter, pumpkin butter, etc... you can give her that on raisin bread, croissant, or whatever she likes.
They have coconut milk yogurt. It's really good, my kids like it.
You can do oatmeal made with vanilla almond milk, or coconut milk, in a thermos.
Leftovers in a thermos.
Homemade muffins, sub dairy with apple sauce, or dairy free products.

I think you would be the ideal parent to ask for exceptions to be made to the snack policy. If she's eating veggies and fruit for lunch why not bend the rules so she can have baked chips for snack? It makes sense in her case.
As for lunch, talk to the school again. Is it a peanut free school or a peanut free class? If its a peanut free class I'd ask if she could be seated with a different class (if she wants to be)a few days a week so she could eat peanut butter.
Rules are rules for a reason, but every now and then rules should be bent if a kid needs them to be.

If it's a peanut free class, I'd think she could have peanut at lunch, just packed in a separate bag from snack so the peanut dust doesn't get into the classroom during snack. I know at our school my son will be sitting at a peanut free table every day so other classmates are allowed to bring in peanut butter sandwiches.
Sunbutter brand sunflower butter is made in a nut free facility and safe for peanut/treenut allergic people since it's a seed not a nut. We like how it tastes, very similar to peanut butter IMO.
Dairy free cheeses: Have you tried Daiya brand dairy free cheese wedge? I think their stuff is the only brand of dairy free chesse that doesn't taste like feet. He'll also eat Galaxy Nutritional Veggie American slices & grated Parmesan

Re: lunches if you are in a nut free class and have dairy and other allergies.
She isn't big on the sunflower butter she did eat it a few times but now only does once in a blue moon. She actually likes the yogurts but often says they make her tummy hurt so I'm not sure I want to do that if she will be at school all day. She eats oatmeal for breakfast most mornings. I find she gets cranky and hungry faster if I don't give her enough protein. I was thinking chicken but she eats that for dinner most nights. She likes hardboiled eggs but I'm not sure it is healthy to have too much or that either. She loves hummus and will have it with carrots sticks or on crackers. So that is one option. I'm trying to come up with a few different things because she gets bored quickly then won't eat that food for a very long time.

Thank you I was told that they eat together and that they couldn't work it. Originally it was not supposed to be nut free. She brought the sunflower butter to preschool this year for the one day she had literacy and lunch. Now she really won't eat it any more. That was fine bc it was only once a week I am worried she won't eat lunch if I don't do enough of a variety. So it was easier to only do one lunch rather than 5.
We have tried the daiya she liked it for about 2 days. But won't eat it at all now. She likes cheeseless pizza somedays but won't eat it cold.
I think if she never had these things originally she would be fine but now that she had regular cheese, chocolate etc before it is harder to have the alternatives. We only discovered her allergies at 3.5 so she had the real cheese before etc (they thought she was lactose intolerant before they pricked her).
Thank you for posting all those links I will definitely check them out!

Re: lunches if you are in a nut free class and have dairy and other allergies.
My kids were in the peanut free classroom and were able to bring pbj for lunch, since the cafeteria had a peanut free table that the kids with the pb allergies sat at. I think peanut free classroom and peanut free schools are different things. I also know that the principal said if there was a kid that only ate peanut butter and removing that from his diet would cause him to barely eat anything they would work it out.
I would call the principal and talk to him/her about it.
For snacks I send in grapes, veggie straws, baked chips, granola bar, popcorn, yogurt, cheese stick, (I am sure they make soy ones).
What about a handful of other nuts for snack, almonds, walnuts?

Re: lunches if you are in a nut free class and have dairy and other allergies.
My daughter cannot have dairy either and she was in a peanut free class last year. She cannot have lunch meats either, so I packed pasta with vegan butter and salt(earth balance is so good and you cannot tell that it is dairy free). It stays very warm in those thermos things. I boiled it in the morning for her. I also made chicken nuggets (applegate chicken nuggets are dairy free too) Also, I packed just jelly sandwiches, and for a snack it's usually pretzels, coconut milk yogurt, or those veggie chips that they sell in stop and shop. My dd loves them. Trader Joe's has cookies that are dairy free as well..they are called Jo Jo's. You can really send in anything, sometimes I cut up a hot dog too. or a bagel with butter. really anything.

It says warm? She won't eat cold chicken nuggest but will if they are warm unfortunately she used to like pasta but doesnt like it very much any more...I know pick eater. She like drumsticks plian and veggies but that dinner so I hate to give it to her for lunch too. Maybe I will try the pasta in the thermos she does likeearths balance. Trader joes is opening right by us soon. I haven't been there before but will check them out. She LOVES veggie chips and veggie straws. We love applegate farms I just don't want to give her too many cold cuts.

It is a completely nut free class no nuts at all. We did speak with the principal but she is in a special class and they are paired up with another class for lunch and both are nut free so no there isn't a way around it unless I give up her accommodations.

Re: lunches if you are in a nut free class and have dairy and other allergies.
Yes it stays pretty warm..not hot obviously but I would boil it in the morning at 7..then stick it imediately in the thermos and at 11:20 (which is her lunch time) it was still warm enough that she didn't notice a difference. Same with the nuggets. I also made soup but that was tricky since the noddles kept cooking after I put it in the thermos. by lunch time the soup was still hot but the noddles were mush. Chicken nuggets def. stay warm. I think the key is to cook them a little longer so they get toasted, then they'll get a little softer over time in the thermos. It'll be trial and error for a while in the beginning. but she'll get used to it. I know what you mean about giving her too many cold cuts, unfortunately my dd cannot have any so it was pretty hard for me but over time I just tried different things.

FYI..just noticed the post on Galaxy brand Veggie cheeses..be aware that this brand does have casein listed in the ingredients. It advertises that it is lactose free but it is not dairy free..just wanted to point that out to. I buy the Vegan brand parmesan cheese and my dd likes to put this on her pasta.

On the days you send in drumsticks, give her peanut butter for dinner.
You seem to have enough options to give her something different each day! (all you need is 5!)

You're right, I linked to the wrong ones. It's their Vegan & Rice Vegan that are dairy free.
BTW, how frustrating is it that their packaging is so similar between the lines that contain dairy and the ones that don't? I find myself checking the ingredients lists multiple times before I feel confident enough to put it in the cart.

If I make chicken nuggets right before school or pasta, I put it in a small thermos or even tin foil. It is still warm by the time they have lunch. My kids eat at 12:20 and leave by 8:30.

I can give her pasta one day, chicken nuggets one day, turkey sandwich, hummus and crackers, and hard boil egg. That should work and not be too boring. That should work bc I can pack that with grapes and apples or melon or a banana and carrots.
Warm is fine she doesn't like cold or too hot foods so she should be happy. I would give her soup but she tends to wear it...lol.
Thank you so much for all the suggestions!

My kids love wraps made with hummus, cucumbers, tomatoes, and whatever other veggies I have (carrot sticks, etc.). It feels like it is a little more substantial and filling then just crackers. We also do the different kinds of hummus so it changes things up.

I was also going to suggest hummus. Did you try the SoDelious yogurt? If she doesn't like bits in her yogurt then get the vanilla. Its not so bad. I used to make DD lunch or she brought in left overs and I would heat it in the thermos and she said it was good. It was either pasta and broccoli with garlic and olive oil, chicken and broccoli with rice, chicken nuggets once in a while, meatballs.
Also, if you can find Daiya cheese by you, it tastes the closest to real cheese. It is soy, dairy, gluten free. It reminds me of fat free cheese and actually melts. So I use that for pizza.

if I did hummus and crackers - she would also get apple slices, melon, carrots, and grapes. I wouldn't do just the entrees - she would get a bunch of sides too - just trying to think main stuff. She eats the same fruit and veggies and never seems to tire of them only of the main items.

I think it might be mental - but she used to LOVE yogurt before we thought she was lactose intolerant then realized she was allergic to milk. But when she would have yogurt or drink milk she could say her throat bothered her or her tummy really hurt. We tried the soy blueberry and peach yogurts and I tried the coconut ones - she likes them and actually asks for them. But only eats one - then the next time I try to give it to her she says it really bothers her tummy.

Kinda boring but Elizabeth loves cheese and crackers. 1x a week I pack 8 saltines with 2 pieces of American cheese and she makes little sandwiches.

My DD was in a nut free class this year and it made snacks a bit difficult. Remember most granola bars have nuts are made at a plant that has nuts. I had to read everything! I sent in a lot of Strawberry Nutrigrain bars(they were safe), baked chips and a few dairy snack and fruits.

Snack Safely.com is a fantastic resource for identifying peanut safe snacks. You still should check the ingredient list but it might help find items you thought you couldn't send in. HTH!
