M/C question
Just a question... Say if you have a miscarriage where your body doesn't expel the fetus, and you don't know you had one. Would you HCG levels remain on target, or would they drop, being that it's still inside you?
I ask this because I have heard more than once that people didn't know they had a miscarriage until they went for a checkup and the doctor couldn't detect a heartbeat.
Another quick question that got me wondering. Say you are due for AF on CD 20, you test and get a BFP and CD 20, on CD 22 you start bleeding. Is this really considered a miscarriage or a chemical pregnancy?

Re: M/C question
I believe the HCG level still remains high enough where BFP still register, and then once there's no heartbeat, the doctor would schedule a D&C if your body doesn't naturally expel the embryo.
If you get a BFP, and then get your period later, then it's classified as a chemical pregnancy. However, technically chemical pregnancies are miscarriages, just that many women don't realize it, because it happened to early (usually around the time AF is due, give or take a few days). Also, if you get some spotting, it doesn't mean that the pg is lost... it could very well be implantation bleeding.

Re: M/C question
Lichi explained it perfectly. I just wanted to add one more thing. HCG in your system prob will not increase if the fetus/embryo is no longer living. As soon as i started bleeding my levels started dropping, as soon as i expelled tissue, it dropped dramatically

Re: M/C question
miscarriage is the actual expelling of the fetus.
If there is no heartbeat you get the choice to wait to see if your boyd will miscarry naturally (as mine did) or do the D & C. I believe the HcG levels plateau and start to come down after the miscarriage
