Mac Book, anything I should know?
I have been told I am getting a Mac Book for Mother's Day! It will be very beneficial in my job. We are going to the store next week. Anything you can tell me? Dos/Don'ts? What do you like? What do you dislike? Do you use the aperature program that they have or do you just install photoshop yourself?
TIA!

If you are going to put a photo editing program on beyond iPhoto head over to mac mall and pick up some extra Ram
If you aren't hooking it up to a second monitor make sure you tell him what size you want

Something about telling a man what size I want that seems so dirty!
Oh, it's iPhoto? I thought it was Aperature. Geesh I am already lost.

Re: Mac Book, anything I should know?
From what I understand about the software (my BF is a Mac Geek):
iPhoto is a basic photo organizing program, very consumer oriented and good to use for storing a few photos. It should come on your computer, or in the iLife softwear package.
Aperature is a more serious photo program. It runs about $200. My BF just got it for Christmas, and it has a ton of options for editing and storing your photos. If you are really into photography, or plan on using the Mac for photo editing, you will want Aperature.
Photoshop is different. While Aperature has some editing options in the program (cropping, fixing red-eye, etc) Photoshop has more options for high-level editing and publishing. Photoshop is not as intuitive as the editing in iPhoto and Aperature (it has a steeper learning curve) so if you have never used it, you may want to get a book. I had to take some classes in Photoshop in college and I still work in the program with the book open next to me!
I hope that helps! I don't know a ton about memory or hardware, so maybe some other tech-savvy LIF lady can help with that.
Enjoy your Mac-I LOVE mine! :)

Thanks! Good to know all of this. I am definately into photography, so iphoto sounds like the infamous 'came with my computer and is just taking up space' program.
DH said the Apple guys will be able to help me, but I don't want to go in this stupid and wide eyed.
ETA: *IF* I decide to go with aperature, can it also be placed on a regular desktop? I can't see me using two different programs on two different computers. I truly don't have enough time to fool around figuring out both programs for my needs.

Only if its a Mac
I think you can buy a family version that gives you 3 licenses instead of 1

Re: Mac Book, anything I should know?
Make sure you go to the Mac store on an "off " time! My BF laughs at me, because the Mac store gives me anxiety when there are a million people in there. If you can, I would try and go a time when kids are in school so you can really get all of your questions answered thoroughly.
Glad I could help :)
