Macbooks and battery life..

We have a Macbook and have had it for maybe a year and a half. The battery goes so fast to 0%, and it seems to drain faster each week that passes.

Is this a common issue? Besides keep charging it all the time, can I just replace the battery?

I'd ask DH, but I know if I mention this....he will be ordering whatever component ASAP online and I want to get facts first.

Thanks.

It does sometimes happen... but don't order it... if you have apple care (and even if you don't) go online at make an appt at the genius bar and see what they say! They might just replace it for you for free ESPECIALLY if you have apple care!

Good Luck!

Re: Macbooks and battery life..

MacBooks are notorious for crappy batteries. I've had mine 3 years and am on my 3rd battery. The best advice they gave me when I got my last battery, was to try not to "bake" your battery....by keeping it plugged in charging when it's full. Also, it's healthy for the battery to be completely drained before recharging to full again.

Oh, and DEF don't buy a different brand battery. Always stay with apple. They are a little more money, about 125 (you can get different brands for around $60 sometimes) but worth it in the long run.

i just had to get a new battery for mine after 3 years, but they gave it to me for free..the battery was completely fried-apparently they're built so that they only last a certain number of charges or something like that, but i love how they don't mention that to you when you purchase them

Thanks so much for all of your responses! We don't have Apple Care, but I was curious..how did you get the battery for free? DO you have the apple care?

Re: Macbooks and battery life..

we usually never get those "care-type things for electronics"..but for some reason my DH did when he bought me my Macbook and I am so glad he did!

We had our battery replace for free and my CD rom fixed for free as well!

They suggested leaving it plugged in as long as possible bec like a PP stated they are only good for a certain amount of recharges! I try to keep it plugged in and work on it at my kitchen counter or on the sofa next to the outlet! Def set up a apt at the Genius Bar and see what they say!

See what your battery life says
Click on the apple in upper left corner
then "about this mac"
then "more info"
Then "power"
and look for the info that looks like this"

Below is my battery info. The cycles are how many times it went from 100% to0%
and the condition is "good" for me now..but the last battery it said "poor"

Re: Macbooks and battery life..

MacBook's need to be calibrated every month or two to keep the battery functioning at its fullest capacity. Try that it really did work for me.

yes you need to replace the battery. I had my macbook for about that long when the battery crapped out and I had to get a new one.
