Mad at pedi (long)
I may be overreacting, but I am upset with our peditrician. Madeline had a high fever the beginning of this week, seemingly without cause. They ruled out RSV, the flu and a UTI. Her blood came back testing positive for an organism- basically there was an infection in her blood (scary!). However, the false positives for the test are way high, and a diagnosis is usually confirmed with a second blood test. She is feeling better, no fever, back to her cute, babbling self. I am growing increasingly upset with our pedi. He put her on a very aggressive course of treatment ( two antibiotic shots spaced out 24 hours- which is why we had to go to the ER/hosp two nights in a row) when the Dx(diagnosis) wasn't even confirmed. If she had still had 104 fever, I'd understand. The impression both my husband and myself got was that this was unescessary. All 4 Drs in the Er, plus the two Drs at the Urgiceneter , all said somethign to that effect without comnig out and saying" Your pedi is overreacting". The Dr last night was scrambling to find the original blood test so she wouldn't have to give Maddy another shot.
I guess I am just exhausted form this week, but I'm kind of P.O'd that he reccommended this route without even waiting for the 2nd results. I guess he had to treat what he thought was going on, but I wonder if were more about malpractice than the best interest of my baby.
