Maggie just came home from her spay - hates the cone!
She really hates the cone. The vet's office said she was one of the smartest dogs they've seen because every trick they used to keep the cone on didn't work on her - she managed to get it off several times. Now she's home and very uncomfortable with it. They told us she had to keep it on for 7 days! We crate her during the day (except when dog walker comes) and at night for sleeping - and I'm afraid of what she'll do. I was wondering if people kept it on for that long or if there are other alternatives???

Call your local Petco and ask if they have the Comfy Cone in stock. Then go down there with Maggie's collar and match up the size with it. It attaches to the collar with elastic loops and the circumference with velcro. So you can separate the velcro and unsnap the collar - no putting it over the head.
You can fold down the bottom too if they're eating or playing with a toy.
This is Brinkley wearing his Comfy Cone, it was a lifesaver:
He even slept in it. The only problem we had was the day I came home from work and he had an area rug stuck to his cone from laying on it.
Good luck, I hope she recovers quickly!

Oh my goodness that's hysterical! How long did you keep it on him. I saw this at petco - I'm going to head there tomorrow to pick it up

Re: Maggie just came home from her spay - hates the cone!
Our vet told us we didn't have to use a cone for our girl.
So what we did when she started licking the incision was put a shirt on her, so she could not reach it. But only when we were with her, you would not want her to get caught on something, if you know what I mean.
Worked for us. Many vets dont even use the cone bc many dogs dont even bother the incision. But I was also home with her everyday....
Hope she feels better soon. Iknow they hate the cones.
