mail at the new house while sellers still there
In changing my name to my married name, I also went ahead and changed our address while I was at it. A few things (our checks and my new debit card) will be sent to the new address.
Now, it's a long shot, but it's possible they will arrive before the seller moves out next week. I believe she's moving on Tuesday - we take possession on Wednesday.
Will they think it's totally weird to get mail addressed to us if these things coe early? Should I try to call and give a heads up?
I don't have the seller's number, just her son's number for setting up the walkthrough / key exchange for next week. Should I call the son or notify the seller's realtor that mail may come?
Considering we already closed, I didn't think the realtor would be the right one to contact... or is it worth contacting them at all?

Re: mail at the new house while sellers still there
It's not weird at all, we also had some mail arrive at our house while the previous owners were still living there. They'd just put it on the side for us and we'd pick it up on the weekends or something.
Figure it this way, after you move in you'll still get mail addressed to them so this is a little payback ahead of time!!

Considering you closed and they are essentially "renting" it from you. You have every right to have mail sent there.
If you are concerned, call the son to ask them to set it aside.

Okay, thank you! I didn't even think twice about it until after I had done it.
The woman who lives there is very nice - I can't imagine she wouldn't set it aside for us.
I just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy! I'm just so anxious to take possession already!!

If you're concerned at all, just go to the post office, and put a "hold" on any mail with your name on it. They'll hold your mail at the office, and you can pick it up (or have it all delivered at once) after you move in.

i did the same thing. we had about 15 Christmas cards waiting for us at the new house. I had sent out cards with our new address thinking we'd be in by then, our closing ended up being pushed back 2 weeks.

You can do this online too!
We got some mail at the house before we closed (I guess someone got our name off of a list somewhere) and they just put it aside for us (along with a little gift) for when we took ownership.

Thanks, all!
It's just hard to feel like it's OURS with the seller in there, you know?! One more week and then we'll finally have the keys and the whole place to ourselves (uh, and all the work men coming in! )
