MAJOR sleep problems

Is there a such thing as a sleep fairy/whisperer/professional/therapist? If so, any reccommendations? We are beyond CIO and any books. DH are going on 2-4 hours of broken sleep a night and we can't go on like this much longer Chat Icon

They will be 11 months on Sunday. DS wakes twice and DD is up all night long. She won't sleep longer than 45 mins unless shes in your arms. Even then, shes up every 90 mins or so. They take a late morning and late afternoon nap. DD has to eat at night bc she doesn't eat enough during the day. As a preemie, she has/had major eating problems.
Thanks ladies.

How long do they nap each time?

have you tried gradually decreasing the ounces she gets at night? then maybe she'll eat more during the day. We did this with my son.

what do you do when your son wakes up? he's not eating right? is he waking for comfort?

It sounds like they are waking out of habit or at least your son is.

And you've done CIO? can you tell me what happened?

My son didn't sleep for 17 months and was waking up sometimes 5 times a night. So i've been there. Both my husband and i work FT so it was torture. So i understand your pain. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon My son didn't sleep well i think because my in laws who watched him during the day didn't like to let him nap, so he was constantly overtired.

Re: MAJOR sleep problems

Aliwnec I can't quote that large a post on the ipad.

The first nap is a little over an hour. The second could be 20 mins or over an hour.

We can't continue to try CIO. We did it a few times and it disturbs/wakes the other baby. Plus we live above our landlord. Plus it didn't work!

Not sure why they are waking! I guess it is habit.

Re: MAJOR sleep problems

I think there is something called maybe the Dream Team - they are people who will actually come to your house for a night or two and help you, or they do phone consultations, etc. I looked into it because I was sooo desperate with DD. It was way too pricey for me though.

DD would wake up FIFTEEN times in a twelve hour night. It was horrible. She slept in her papasan until about 6 months. Basically until she was way too big to be sleeping in it. Then at 7 months I let her sleep on her tummy. It helped, but didn't solve hte problem.

Eventually, I think she just grew out of it. But I did do things to encourage her I think. I refused to pick her up from the crib. I would rub her back, give her the binky, just put my hand on her bottom, etc. Certain things worked for her, that I found through trial and error. Eventually she started sleeping longer and longer. Around 11 months she started sleeping through the whole night, mostly.

My midwife mentioned some books. I never did read any of them, but one was called 12 hours of sleep by 12 weeks. I saw it on amazon.

Hope some of this is helpful. I feel your pain!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: MAJOR sleep problems

Mrandmrs - thanks! So funny I JUST read that site. I am sure its pricey but I am desperate. My DD wakes at least 15 times as well but in a 10 hour or so time period. I am glad things worked out for you. DH and I are going to go over our option shortly. Something has to give snd we finally admitted we need professional help.
