Make up for over 40 club
I just watched many video tutorials on methods, tips, tricks. Many that are gorgeous show using cream eye shadow, but I thought I had read one time to not use cream over 40, cause it settles in fine lines and makes you look worse. Also, while watching The Balm videos, it occurred to me that she was not putting anything below her brow...just on the eyelid, and underneath the eye. I've been applying eyeshadow since the '80s, so have always put on the browbone. Is that passé?
Any help/suggestions are helpful and appreciated.

Re: Make up for over 40 club
No cream shadow if you have fine lines / wrinkles It will settle in there. Always use a primer - because even the powder will settle by the end of the day without it.
I do mostly just my eye lids for day to day but will go higher. Not all the way to brow bone unless I am using a highlighter for full face makeup (going somewhere fancy, etc)
I try to keep it simple for every day. Neutral tones. Sometimes I'll throw some plum in there too for a pop of color.
I went to Sephora for a make up tutorial because my skin has changed a lot since approaching 40. She taught me a ton and since I've gone there, I'm able to follow the YouTube tutorials better.

When you went to Sephora, did you have to make an appointment? Did you have to spend a certain amount?

Whenever I use a primer, it sort of "peels" or "sloughs" off as I'm putting on my foundation. I'm assuming that it isn't getting into my pores because of my moisturizer. Is the primer supposed to be instead of moisturizer?
And I can't use plums, or I look like I've been punched in the eye...looks like a bruise. I need a dedicated tutor, not trying to push their shit.

The formulas aren't working together properly. Try the primer & foundation without moisturizer. If it still doesn't work, it is a reaction between the primer & foundation & you wold need to change one of the formulas- Probably the primer if the moisturizer & foundation work together ok on their own. They probably have a similar base & you would want the primer to been in the same family.
If the primer & foundation work together well without moisturizer, then it is probably the moisturizer. Something in it repels the primer.
What products do you use?

Re: Make up for over 40 club
Sephora make up tutorial was $$. I forget how much. But you get product for the money. So if it's $200-you get 1.5 hr tutorial and in exchange, you buy $200 or more worth of product(easy to do at Sephora) and yes, I made an appointment. Went to Roosevelt field mall.
You may not be using the right moisturizer /primer/foundation. Some combo of them or not. Your skin changes as you age and you need different things. I was using mattifiers Bc I was oily. But my make up wasn't setting right. Comes to be , the mattifier was too much for my skin type and I needed something else.
At The make up tutorial , she taught me proper skin care for my skin type and then make up application from there. The right skin care has a lot to do with how your make up will sit on your face.
For me... it was worth it.
