Making bottles

Do you pre-make the bottles? For example...if you need 6 bottles for the day, do you fill up the bottles and put them in the fridge and take them out as needed...or do you make 1 at a time when it's time for a feeding? Also, do you use ready to feed or powder?

I use both ready to feed and powder and i usually make the bottles in advance..so i could just heat and serve..much faster when DD's are screaming.

We are using ready to feed...and DH told me I cannot pre-make the bottles because the bottles will become all yucky from the formula sitting in them. I will be using them within the 24 hour period, and I know that after the bottle/can is open, it has to be used within that time frame. He also told me that too many germs from other food in the fridge will get into the bottles through the air because they are plastic. He's telling me I have to make them 1 at a time Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Making bottles

I never used to, but now I make her formula in the morning in a tupperware that has oz. on the side (like for icedT or something), then we just fill the bottle and heat it. Since using the playtex dropins, it's so easy to warm up.

Re: Making bottles

I use both powder and ready to feed. During the day, I make the bottles as he needs them. I use the RTF during the night, it makes it easier since I am sleepy Chat Icon

I sed to pre make bottles all the time. I would open the RTF can and fill as many bottles as I could get out of it. Jake was always fine with it and never got sick from it.

Re: Making bottles

let's see.....I did RTF and premade all bottles, I did RTF in a jug and poured as needed.
I did powder and made all bottles.
I did powder and made as needed with a room temperature pitcher of water.

Now I make her AM bottle the night before, her midday bottle is a dry one and I fill with bottled water at work when needed and her nighttime bottle I either make when needed or I have a dry one ready to be filled with water. Sometimes if I know I'll be home all day, I'll make all 3 for the day and leave in the fridge.

During the work week, I make DD's bottles the night before. On the weekends, I will make all the bottles in the morning. DD has never had a problem.

BTW - I've used RTF and powder.

I use powder and I make a pitcher of it in a tupperware container and each time she needs a bottle, I just fill it from the pitcher... So the formula is premade each day , but the bottles are not.

Can I add my 2 cents??

I did not make them ahead of time. I boiled a kettle of water and used it all day long for the bottles. This way it was room temp--my daughter didn't mind it that way. It was easier also for going out for me. Just add the powder and that's it!

One of my boys formula is ready made....and they are in those tall cans. I use a cat food plastic container that fits perfect on top of the can.
Just make sure you clean the metal top off and you should be fine. As long as the formula is used within 48 hours of it being open......

In the beginning I used ready to feed. Now I prefill the bottles with water and keep powdered formula in the travel container all measured out. When it's time for a bottle I just add powder to the water and shake. I don't heat my bottles.

we use RTF and I make atleast 24 hrs worth of bottles if not 48 - the ped says this is fine. DD is 4 mths and we've done it this way since day 1 - no problems.

I also do the RTF and I have a morning routine of sterilizing bottles. I make enough for the day and we have had no problems at all. Its much easier just to know all her bottles are just right there when its time for a feeding!

Re: Making bottles

I use RTF when at home and pour the 32 oz can into a formula pitcher in the fridge. When we are out, I use powder and make as needed.

Re: Making bottles

I;ve never pre-made any bottles - and have used both the powder and ready feed - and its been managable for me - on the other hand - if i had twins - I think i would find the pre-made bottles more convenient.
