Does anyone know if you need a permit to make your driveway wider? We have a single car width driveway that we hate and are thinking about extending.
The curb and apron area would stay the same at the street.
Town of Oyster Bay.

I know that in the Town of Islip, the driveway can only be a certain percentage of the property. I actually had to get a variance because my driveway is too big....
Every town is different, but just wanted to say that in some towns, there are rules about driveway size.

Definitely check with your town. Our driveway can only be a certain percentage too which is stupid because we can't park on the street at night.

Re: making driveway wider-permit?
We have to get a permit if we are going to break the curb for any reason. So if we make the driveway wider or we make it circular we need a permit, plus there is also the % of property that can be driveway.
