Male OB/GYN
Well, I wasn't going to have my 1st sonogram until I was 9w1d because I just REALLY wanted to go with the doctor that delivered my first child. I love her! I can have the 1st sonogram at 8 weeks, but my doctor of course is on vacation. So, because I'm such a worry wart and everyday is draggin already, I made an appointment with another doctor there. I've met him before and he's really nice and funny. The thing is that I've never had a male doctor examine me before? Is it stupid for me to be nervous about that? Thanks!

No, it not stupid of you to feel nervous at all! Personally I just would not feel comfortable with a male DR as far as female issues go but that is just me. I only have seen females.

Re: Male OB/GYN
I always had a woman ob/gyn until I got pg and i switched practices. I thought that I would be uncomfortable with a male, but it has been perfectly fine and I was not uncomfortable at all.

Re: Male OB/GYN
i felt the same way. untill i saw the male obgyn while i was pregnant, and i LOVED HIM. infact i liked him so much more the woman i had been seeing for years. theres nothing to be worried about, they dont even look "down there", they just feel around a little bit, and its nothing they havent felt a million times before.

Re: Male OB/GYN
I've had the same male OBGYN for almost 10 years, so I don't know any other experiences, but I absolutely adore him. He is so sweet and caring and I feel so at ease with him. Go in with an open mind and take it from there. good Luck!

Re: Male OB/GYN
Before my current Dr's, I ONLY saw a woman, but there are 3 male Dr's in my practice and 2 of them are my FAVORITES. I never thought I would feel comfortable around any male Dr, but I sure do now.

Re: Male OB/GYN
I have both male and female and it does not bother me, I guess it's a preference though

Re: Male OB/GYN
At my ob/gyn there are 4 doctors, 3 female, 1 male. So because they alternate being on call, they recommend you see all 4 of them. Well after years of having seen 1 of the female doc's, my stress level was out of control before my last app. which was with the male. All he had to do was listen for the heartbeat with the doppler. He definatly was as scary as I imagined. Just got bad vibes. All of my other friends see males though and wouldn't think twice about it. I am not trying to freak you out more, I am just saying that I can relate. Most of them are great I am sure, I just happened to have creepy guy at my office.

Re: Male OB/GYN
I personally feel more comfortable with a female ob/gyn. During my first pregnancy my OB happened to be pregnant and was on maternity leave when I was a few months along, in her absence I had to see a male OB. He had to do an internal exam, he had HUGE hands and it hurt sooo bad! Good thing I only saw him one time. I just didn't feel as comfortable as I would have with a female.

I love my male doctor.
So do I!! I have been going to males only for oh at least 10 years. They are more gentle than women. The women dr's I went too were so b*tchy, and didn't give me any info, not to mention they are sooo rough with the equipment.

Re: Male OB/GYN
I've generally heard from people that male doctors aren't as harsh when doing internals, whereas female doctors are like "Look, if I can take it, you can take it."

Re: Male OB/GYN
I ONLY see female OB/GYNs. I would not and have never been comfortable with a male OB. I have never had a GYN exame by a male nor would I allow it...it totally freaks me out.

Re: Male OB/GYN
I have always had females, i was never examined by a male, but when i went for my first sonogram at 14 weeks, they sent me to sonoscan since my OB doesnt do them in the office and the tech had a problem seeing the baby so she called in the doctor who happend to be a male, i was fine at first until he said he had to do an internal sono since my uterus was tilted and he couldnt get a good look. i was extremely uncomfortable, but to tell you the truth he really didnt even look down there, he felt his way around with the wand and just put it in and he was sitting off to the side of me and just had his hand with the wand under my leg so it wasnt that bad. But personally i wouldnt want to see a man again.

Re: Male OB/GYN
I don't think the Dr's gender is an issue at all. It all depends on how good of a doctore he/she is.
My OBGYN happens to be a woman because she came with good recomendations, I like her myself and she is very close to my house, but if she was a man I would have gone to her just the same.
