Re: Marinara Sauce...
I just brown some garlic in oil, add a couple of cans of delmonte tomato sauce, some chopped tomatoes (canned or fresh) and some basil. Really simple, fresh, good.
ETA: I forgot to say warm through - I usually simmer for about 20 mins or so.
You can also add red pepper flakes or saute chopped chili pepper with the garlic if you want a spicy sauce, like a fra diavolo.

Re: Marinara Sauce...
Sautee some onions then add garlic and sautee. Add a can of plum tomatoes (hand crush them for a chunky style, otherwise buy them already crushed if you like a smoother sauce) Chop up some fresh parsley & basil (maybe a 1/2 - 1 cup loosly packed, depends on how you like it.) Sprinkle in some dried oregano, salt & pepper.
Simmer for 30 minutes

Re: Marinara Sauce...
MIL recipe: brown garlic (sausage too if you like) in a little olive oil 2 large cans crushed tomatoes 2 small cans tomato paste 2 small cans of tomato sauce sprinkle enough oregano and basil over top of sauce in pot to cover it and stir.
add a little sugar to cut the acid in tomatoes.
I also add in 2 beef bouillon cubes and you can add a little red wine too

Re: Marinara Sauce...
the sugar is the key in my book.....its even a quick way if oyu have to use jarred sauce...just add a few tbsp of sugar to the jarred stuff and it even tastes better...
my recips is pretty much the same ingredients, and then just trying it, adding more salt/oregano/basil/etc....
for a spin off you might even want to add raw veggies chopped up (sometimes we will add zuchini, mushroom, etc for aveggie sauce!)
