masked potatoes for 8 - how many pounds?
I'm cooking for 8 adults (and a 3-year old) for the holidays. How many pounds of potatoes should I cook / mash?
I've never cooked for this many people before... Is an entire 5-pound bag enough? Too much? I'm clueless!

depends, my family eats mashed potatoes like they are going out of style, but a 5 lb bag should be ok.

Yeah, they're always a big hit. I am, however, making sweet potatoes, too... Some people don't like the sweet potatoes, so I'm offering both. I still need to be prepared that everyone digs into the mashed, though! I'm sure everyone will have some.

I made a 5lb bag on Thanksgiving for 11 adults and the entire bowl went.
We also had sweet potatoes though.
I think 5 should be enough for 8.

This is what I do also. Usually works out perfectly. It's usually about 2 potatoes per person and 3 potatoes for bigger appetites like my weight lifter nephew. Plus a few extra for good measure.

I had 22 people for Thanksgiving and used a 5lb bag of potatos, it was enough, but I also had a million other side dishes too.

I made 5 lbs for 5 people and it was ALL gone  
my family LOVES potatoes. so for a "normal" family, 5 lbs should be good.

My mom made 5 lbs for 9 people & had some left over for Thanksgiving. I think 5 should be good.
