Massachusetts
DH and I were talking about maybe moving to Massachusetts - either near Boston or western Mass. Can anyone recommend some nice areas to look into? TIA!

Re: Massachusetts
My sister lives in Brighton. I have a friend in Newton, and my BIL lives in Lexington. All nice areas.
My older brother is also moving to MA this summer, but I have no idea of the name of the town.

Re: Massachusetts
I live outside Boston, and would be happy to talk to you about the suburbs here. I don't know too much about western Mass though.
Do you know where you or hubby would be working?

Re: Massachusetts
My brother is in Arlington - his wife works at Harvard, he works in Concord. Their commutes aren't too bad and they have a nice house in a nice neighborhood.
My BF lives in Marshfield (south - Cape direction). She works at Woods Hole. I like her area better but in the summer the traffic stinks because she is RIGHT off Rt. 2 which is the road from Boston to the Cape.
I went to school in Western MA -- UMass Amherst. Also a lovely area but it depends on what you would do for work I think....

Re: Massachusetts
My SiL used to live in Medford. It was near Tufts and was really nice I think it was about 15-20 minutes from downtown.

Re: Massachusetts
We lived in MA for a few years before coming back to NY. Do you want to be in the city or in a suburb? We lived in Brighton, but it's really part of Boston and packed in with little parking. We leved in Framingham too, and it's nice but with 2 "parts" of town. Not that any part is unsafe or anything, but you'd want to be in the part that goes to the Hemenway School. Arlington (though it's north of Boston, not west), Newton, Sudbury, Natick, Hopkinton (though that's further west and it depends how close to you want to be to Boston), parts of Watertown are nice...

I used to live in Littleton, Acton and Townsend all are about 1/2 hour west of Boston. I would love to move back up there but the DW does not want to move.

Re: Massachusetts
i live in downtown boston- but as for other good neighbrohoods - wllesely and newton have the best school districts - the school districts are not very good in MA - most people send their kids to private schools and they are a lot more expensive up here it seems - there are some very pretigous schools
other than that- i like framingham, natick, watertown, braintree, and belmont

Re: Massachusetts
MY SIL & BIL used to live in Boston - actually Brighton, they rented. It was a cute area, very near the T to go into Boston. Winters were brutal and they missed family in NY, thus their decision to move back.
