Re: Massapequa/Massapequa park info needed
MP is more or less surrounded by Massapequa. MP is between Sunrise Mall and the Mass Preserve. It's mostly N of Sunrise Hwy but there is still an area of MP that is below Sunrise and even below Merrick Rd. Massapequa itself is very big. You pay extra tax to live in the Inc Village of MP. Honestly, IMO it buys you more rules really but it's a very nice town. The SD is mostly #23 and there are 6 elem schools, 1 middle school, 1 HS, so it's a large SD. In the North area of Mass & MP, school district can also be either Plainedge or Farmingdale. I think Cypress St is the cutoff in MP for the Farmingdale SD (not 100% sure), not sure about the area where Mass SD ends and Plainedge SD begins. Very east part of Mass is Amityville SD. There are some very rich areas south of Merrick Road.

I live in towards North Massapequa and am in Plainedge School District. I love my area. Plainedge is much smaller SD than Massapequa, but also has a very good reputation. Taxes are high though.
Wet me know if you have any questions.

I grew up in Massapequa and went to Berner JH and MHS. It's a great town with great schools.
We moved to South Amityville which is also a beautiful neighborhood but has a bad HS, so we'll be sending our kids to Catholic or moving before they hit HS. But we love it here so not sure if we'll ever want to move.

Re: Massapequa/Massapequa park info needed
Sorry, the only info I can give you is about my area. We bought our house Nov '07 in Massapequa Shores, which is south of Merrick Rd. Taxes are pretty reasonable ($8700 w/out star on a high ranch) and the neighborhood is wonderful. Garbage pickup is GREAT....they'll take anything! We're in SD#23 which I've heard is one of the best in Nassau, but I don't have kids yet so I can't say firsthand. My DH's cousin is a teacher at Fairfield and she says its a wonderful school, smaller classroom size, etc.
I would stay away from Biltmore Shores - I've heard their taxes are a lot higher (garbage isn't included in their taxes either) and a lot of homes get flooded over there.

Not true for the entire Biltmore Shores. There are a lot of areas south of Merrick Road that flood including Nassau Shores, and Massapequa Shores.

Besides all the above info......I grew up in Massapequa and now live in Massapequa Park...LOVE it! Both are great!
If you want the "Village" feel, Massapequa Park north of Sunrise is great! I walk into town & we have everything there! There is a park close by too!

Biltmore Shores has an awesome beach club. Don't let private garbage deter you from a house you love. Its only $50 a month.

Re: Massapequa/Massapequa park info needed
Thank you so much for all your responses! Alot of the houses we may look at in the next week or so are located in Massapequa but have Amityville as their school district....I think its SD 6....any thoughts on this SD?

Amityville SD is not a good district at all. I would not buy a house in that SD unless I planned to send my kids to private school for their entire school history.

You should steer clear of Amityville school district. The people in the nicer part of Amityville send their kids to private school.

Re: Massapequa/Massapequa park info needed
my office in Massapequa and the majority of our patients live in Massapequa, MP, Amityville, Amity Harbor. All of the families that live in Amityville/ AH send their kids to private school. In fact a large portion of people that live in the Massapequa district send their kids to private school I would say 1/3 of all of the children in my practice go to private school. Overall massapequa, MP are nice family towns.

Same here, I grew up in North Massapequa and now live in the Park. DH and I love it, DH grew up here. East Lake Elementary has excellent ratings as well! So many people that grew up in Massapequa always end up buying their own homes here, we find that so often!

You can't go wrong with either area - I think both are great places to raise a family. Good school district (but large). In MP, you will pay additional for village taxes.
