Masters Degree

I finished my classes last December but I never filed for my diploma because I was pregnant at the time. Then I kept putting it off and off. Finally I'm filling out the paperwork for my diploma to be sent to me and I have 1 question...

Should I get my diploma in my maiden name or my married name? I never changed my name at school...I never got around to that either...Chat Icon And Yes...I was married when I graduated.

Re: Masters Degree

I got married 6 months before I graduated...so I got my diploma in my married name. That is who I was when I graduated, so I thought it made sense.

Re: Masters Degree

It really depends on what you want to do.
I graduated with my masters under my maiden name and recieved my diploma under my maiden name and then i got married and switched everything to my married name including my diploma and that is the only thing that upsets me to be honest. It is weird to know I worked so hard for my masters/doploma under my maiden name and now it is going to be framed under my married name..............I love that i changed my name to my husbands name but i wish i kept my diploma the original way----JMO

Re: Masters Degree

At first I thought I would have it in my maiden name because I was proud that I received it and my parents paid for it...so it was a way to thank them. Plus nobody in my family had ever recieved their masters degree before. But then I think...I received it while I was married, so I should just change it to that...

I guess I'm still torn...Chat Icon

Re: Masters Degree

My undergrad & grad degrees are in my maiden name. Didn't have new ones made when I got married. I did the work as a Romano, not a McKenna (although I'm proud to be a McK.) Chat Icon

I am keeping everything in "my" name. I told DH, I did all the work under my maiden name, and it was my dream to do this. I think he somewhat understood

Re: Masters Degree

I graduated in August and was married in December. I wanted it in my maiden name since my other degrees were as well.

I would get it in whichever name you are going to use in your profession.

Re: Masters Degree

i would keep the name consistent to avoid any confusion when applying for a job. i.e: name on ss#, license, transcript, resume, and diploma should all be the same.

Re: Masters Degree

I received my JD in May and I got married in August so I used my maiden name for my diploma, but for my bar admissions I used my First Maiden Married name.

All of my degrees were earned before I was married so for me it was easier, but I wanted both names on my admission card eventhough I took the exams before I was married.

I agree Stef. I think your parents would be really honored by that.
