MaterniT21?
Has anyone done this test? I was 35 and one month when I became pregnant and dr suggested I do it. I scheduled an appointment with a genetics place for next week but I wanted to get some info from people who have done this test. Since it's so new, none of my friends have done it.

MaterniT21?
Was your age the only reason why it was suggested? Have you had the NT scan with bloodwork? The only reason I ask is because alot of insurance companies do not cover it. I met with a genetic counselor last week b/c we had 2 soft markers show up on the u/s. The MarterniT21 was presented as an option if we were really nervous, but b/c the blood test results from my NT scan and level II showed a very low risk of DS or Trisomy it was not stongly recommended to us. The way it was explained to us was that if we were very nervous we should get the test, but that they only test that would be conclusive is an amnio or CVS. DH and I both agreed that the risk associated with amnio or CVS was not a risk we wanted to take. And since our other tests came back with low risk we decided not to do the MaterniT21.

Re: MaterniT21?
I'm 36 now and just had the test done a few weeks ago. I didn't have to do any genetic counseling though. It was just a blood draw. Gives you info on Down's, Trisomy 13/18, and tells you gender. If your insurance doesn't cover it the co-pay is a max of $235 so def not bad considering all the info it gives you. I had my results 8 days after having the blood drawn.
ETA: My NT scan/blood results came back great but OB recommended it anyway, actually, even before we had the complete results from the ultrascreen.

MaterniT21?
Im 40 and was not referred to a genetic counselor nor was it "recommended" that I have a Amnio, CVS or even the MaterniT21. These tests were discussed as options but my Dr didn't seem to concerned , just wanted me to know what was offered. All my sono's & blood work results came with in normal range so I didn't feel it was necessary to go with further testing.

Re: MaterniT21?
I will be 40 when baby is born. The doctor kept referring to my advanced maternal age and I was worried about it was well. He mentioned the test and though I was doing the ultrascreen, I wanted to know ASAP so we did the Materni21 anyway. My results from the ultrascreen turned out great but I was still glad to have the piece of mind that the other test came out negative.
Oh, and I was not referred to a genetic counselor either.

Re: MaterniT21?
I am 33 and had I not run into some issues after my level II sonogram, I would not have done the test. All of this new testing has done nothing but created more stress for DH and I. It is a personal descision however and also depends what you would do with the information you get.

We had the same situation. We had persistent right vein which could be a marker for Down Syndrome. We took the test so we could prepare ourselves. The test itself is a simple blood test. The worst thing is waiting 10 days for the results. Thank god our test came back ok and I don't regret taking it.

Re: MaterniT21?
yes I had it done.. i was 35...he said they want to use it in place of the Amnio since it's just a blood test and just as accurate.
My age was the only reason.
