Re: maternity clothes sizing....
I think they are all cut differently, so definetly try them on. However my pants say medium and the equivalent is 8-10 - so you are correct!

Re: maternity clothes sizing....
I'm normally a size 6, which is a small. I got a bunch of stuff in small, which I completely can't wear anymore. If I had it to do over I would have bought all mediums and even some larges. That belly can get REALLY BIG!

Re: maternity clothes sizing....
Usually they all are equal to your Pre-Pg size. If you wore a Med then you are a Med in Maternity. You can go down a size in tops if you are not that big yet. But I agree try them on, especially the bottoms.

thanks ladies...I'm getting some MED maternity shorts for now since my shorts are tight, and if need be, I'll get Larges later on.

Re: maternity clothes sizing....
I was a pre-pregnancy 10 too! I bought a lot of Mediums for a while and had a few larges...now it seems like I don't wear any of the Mediums at all anymore and only the Larges feel comfortable!

Re: maternity clothes sizing....
Pre-preggo I was an 8 which would make me a medium... and all maternity pants that were medium swam on me up until like 3 weeks ago.... I just wore a belt...
As far as tops... I always had big boobs... so every shirt is different...
Def try them on...
To answer your question: a 10 is considered a medium...

Re: maternity clothes sizing....
Pre pg, I was a size 6. I ordered all of my pants/shorts in medium. They're a bit big on me still but I'm sure I'll grow into them. I am 18wks 3 days.

Re: maternity clothes sizing....
Finding maternity clothes was so hard for me... I think it is crazy that the majority of maternity clothing comes in sm,med,lg or xtra large. Why is it once we become preggo we have to lump ourselves in these categories as opposed to size 8,9,10 etc. Hmmmm...maybe I'll start my own line of clothes

Re: maternity clothes sizing....
Pre-pregnancy I was a petite size 6... I started wearing maternity clothes around 15 weeks, and I really felt like I was swimming in them, even when they were a small, so for the first few months I just bought some clothes a few sizes up, and a bunch of small size maternity clothes. Well, now, 28 weeks later I can't fit into most of the maternity clothes that I bought in a size small! Your body will change so much as the weeks progress so that while a small or medium might fit comfortably now, in a few weeks, it totally won't... try to get things that can really stretch - I find the pants and skirts with the panel are best... the elastic stuff was great for the first and second trimester, but barely fit now...

Re: maternity clothes sizing....
I think the sizing is crazy too and every woman grows different and then every store makes the clothes different.
For me - I was a small in tops and a size 6 pre-pregnancy. I wore medium bottoms pretty much in all stores and size small is shirts (although in H&M and a few others I needed mediums from the start). Everything was huge at first but I pretty much wore the same size my entire pregnancy. I tried to find pants with belt hoops and wore Dh's belt with them in the middle of my pregnancy. The last month or two I needed a few medium tops. The worst was length for me - most pants weren't long enough and I always had to look for shirts that were cut on the longer side.

Re: maternity clothes sizing....
Speaking of maternity clothes, I'm only about 7 weeks along, but my pants are already incredibly tight. I'm not sure if I should go out now and buy new bigger (non-maternity) pants, or if I should try to hold out and wait to buy maternity clothes. I don't want to be buying new pants every 2 weeks. What did you girls do? Did your regular clothes seem to get tight very quickly?

Re: maternity clothes sizing....
A couple of us mentioned this on previous posts, but I highly recommend the Bella Band...I think it's on the Babycenter website. It's like a tube top that goes over the midsection of your pants (and under your shirt). I remember some people used a real tube top in the same way.
You can wear your regular pants forever by wearing them open with the band covering everything. It smoothes everything out too. I am almost 30 weeks, and I wore regular work pants as recently as two weeks ago with this thing. Also, some of my maternity pants are a bit big still, so I can use it as a "belt."
Definitely money well spent if you don't want to constantly upgrade your maternity wardrobe!!

A lot of my regular clothes got tight quick but more on the hips than the belly - I bought clothes a size or two up because maternity clothes looked like pj's. I wore my size ups from week 12/13 until 22+ weeks. I know the low rise jeans I bought lasted thru my 7th month before getting uncomfortable. Then they still fit but the waist band rubbed too much on my belly. I guess it depends how you grew. Most maternity clothes looked awful unless it was very fitted because my belly didn't grow much until like 22/23 weeks.
