Maternity clothing question

I picked up a few new shirts. A couple have a string in the back that i was told I could tie around my front or I could tie it in the back. I'm not a fan of tying them in the front so I have been tying them in the back. I've already popped 1 of the little loops on each of the shirts. Anyone else have experiencing tying them in the back without busting the loop. I know they aren't too tight. I'm just wondering if maybe they really aren't supposed to be tied in the back.

I tied mine in the back until it got too tight and then I just removed them.

How far along were you when you removed them?
