Maternity tops

Does anyone else prefer more form-fitting tops? I hate the ones that are loose or that have the tie under the boobs and then just hang down. I feel like they do NOTHING for me and make me look 10x bigger than I am. I feel the same way about dresses. I am actually loving the way my body looks right now and I hate the way these types of tops and dresses make me feel.

I would love to find some "tighter" tops - any suggestions? I suppose I could just wear regular t-shirts, but they'd have to be a longer length than a regular T.

Am I alone in hating the flowy tops and dresses? Chat Icon

Re: Maternity tops

They do make me look bigger, but they are much more comfortable for me right now esp. my work clothes, I can't really get away with tight tops .

On the weekends, I do wear the form fitting maternity tops, but the selection I have found is limited.

Re: Maternity tops

I hate maternity tops to!!! I ended up buying XL tshirts from Old navy, or I went to Lane bryant...

Re: Maternity tops

I have tighter fitting tops (from Motherhood, Old Navy, Gap, etc.), but now at 30 weeks + my belly button is not sticking out, but protruding more than usual, and I hate the outline. Chat Icon I'm sticking with more flowy stuff til Chat Icon arrives.

I hate those hanging flowy tops too, I call them tent tops. However, I have found myself actually fitting rather snugly into them at this point (29 weeks). So as you get further along, they may not look as tent-like.

Re: Maternity tops

i really liked the flowy tops when i first started showing (though they were "fitted" flowy tops, if that makes sense. empire waist and only bunched in the very front) but now that i'm really big i prefer the fitted ones. i'm just wearing the few shirts from pre-pregnancy that still fit, so i'm not sure about buying more. i don't really want to now that i'm so close, but i probably should so i have more than one outfit. Yes! I don't wear any (or have any) flowy tops, mostly all are form fitting. They aren't from maternity stores though, I get most from American Eagle, TJ Maxx, etc... you can find some really cute long shirts at regular stores.

Definately not!!

those tops make me look 20lbs heavier and are too big everywhere.

I went to Gap & Kohls and bought spring shirts that were long (hit the hips) and those are working well. I didn't think I would find anything, but managed to find 6-7 shirts that work now.

Re: Maternity tops

i didn't mind some maternity tops but honestly i got 90% of my shirts from NY and CO. - just a size bigger. i also preferred a more form-fitted look.

i was so glad i did b/c they are all still in my closet now and i continue to wear them! Chat Icon

Re: Maternity tops

I'm 26 weeks and love the fitted tops way more than the flowy ones (even thought I'm wearing a flowy one today!)

i went to destination maternity (and if anyone is in the westchester area, the one of Bloomingdale Rd is huge!!!) and they had some great v-neck tees with the side rouching (sp?) they fit like a regular T-shirt but are longer to accomidate as you get bigger. best buy so far!!

Re: Maternity tops

I actually went to Lane Bryant and bought shirts from there. Their shirts are a little bit longer than regular tee shirts, but they are really comfortable and not "hangy"

Re: Maternity tops

I only wear the form fitting ones...I don't like how the flowy ones look on me, I am too short and it makes me look frumpy.

I LOVE the ones from Destination with the rouching on the sides.

I bought a few tanks from Ingrid and Isabel from amazon the other day..they are form fitting, but haven't gotten the m yet, so I'll let you know.

I'm all for flowy sometimes, but for the most part, I like form fitting.

I'm proud of my belly and like showing it off!!! Chat Icon

Re: Maternity tops

I have found the same problem. I have also found that i really like the empire waist tops, the ones that have no ties but are elastic from under the boobs and around the back. I hate ties. I do like the more form fitting tops that aren't too long. Kohls has some good selections. Motherhood as well.

When I was PG I did this-one of the tops that fit me until the very end wasn't even a maternity top(pic in pregnancy album-the blue shirt) I bought a couple of 1X and my SIL bought me this great long form fitted black t shirt so I could layer that under other things that got too short by the end. I was overweight when I got PG and I pretty much only wore form fitting stuff. I got most from JC Penney online but a few from Target and Kohls

I like both! But I agree I feel like tighter tops make me look better, sexier and I feel comfortable! I'm pretty much all belly and love it!

I hate them too. They make me look huge. However.. at almost 33 weeks.. they are so much more comfy. I wore mostly form fitting stuff until now.. but, now I want to be wearing stuff that is tent like. I can't wait for the weather to get just a bit warmer so I can wear dresses everyday!

Re: Maternity tops

One suggestion I received for the tops with the ties..

If you can tie them on the front but off to the side. It makes it look a little "old School maternity"

I am the same exact way. Up until about two weeks ago I loved the more form fitting tops but now I am just starting to get so big that they just excentuate my ever increasing back fat, etc. Bring on the flowy shirts for the next 7 weeks!!!

Re: Maternity tops

T-shirts work well for me. I wear them a lot with a cardigan or something over them for work. I don't really like anything with a tie in the back either. Although I wore a dress like that yesterday and it looked nice.

Re: Maternity tops

I prefer the form fitting tops too. I got most of mine at Destination Maternity with the rutching on the sides.

The loose ones make me look huge. And at 20 weeks, I've heard enough "You are so BIG" comments, that I don't need to accentuate my belly. I try to go with the flow when people make those comments, but my patience is starting to wear thin....
