Mattress lowering/crib without dropside..
So it looks like DD has just discovered how to stand and we are trying to figure out if we need a new crib...unfortunately my beautiful covertable crib when lowered to next and final level is almost all the way to the ground and makes for no easy task when putting DD down to sleep, especially if she is already asleep...so how did you girls with non-dropside cribs handle this...should we just go out there and get a drop side one, or will this somehow get easier, or am I missing the trick? Thanks for you help!!!

Re: Mattress lowering/crib without dropside..
We just lowered DDs mattress last night to the lowest level. I can't yet answer your question since DH gets her up in the morning and puts her to bed at night. I'll have a better idea tomorrow when I'm home all day with her.. I have a feeling it's just something I will eventually get used to. Either that, or I will need a step stool in her room for me as I'm only 5 feet tall!

Re: Mattress lowering/crib without dropside..
ours has 3 levels so when DD first started standing up we lowered it half way and then when she started trying to climb out we lowered it all the way.

Re: Mattress lowering/crib without dropside..
our convertible goes pretty low too. we put DD to bed awake, so that isn't an issue. i'm only 5'1" (and now PG with a belly starting to grow) so she sometimes she doesn't have the smoothest of landings, but it doesn't bother her.

Re: Mattress lowering/crib without dropside..
Okay, so this has been my experience today,
depending on her location in the crib when she wakes up I can pick her up, but it's a stretch!
I cannot take off or put on her sleep sack in the crib anymore either so I have to do that on the changing table.
ETA: I am not running out to buy a dropside crib.

Re: Mattress lowering/crib without dropside..
We just lowered DS's crib to the lowest level and I was worried about being able to put him down and pick him up but no problems so far!!

Re: Mattress lowering/crib without dropside..
I am 5'3 and I have no issues laying DS in his crib. He is usually awake but sometimes he is already asleep. I just hold him by his head and his butt with my arm between his legs. This gives me the length in my arms that I need to lay him down softly.
Getting him out is no problem because he is always standing already waiting for me to take him out.

Same here!! To the OP - this is the "trick" you are looking for.
If this doesn't work get a small step stool/ladder.
Something like this:

Re: Mattress lowering/crib without dropside..
I thought it would be an issue but, LOVED my crib so bought it anyway. I'm 5'6 and have had no probems at all (it's been at the lowest setting for a while) and now almost 8 months pg still no problems. BUT, DS is standing when I pick him up and i put him down only partially b/c he can get down himself - if that makes sense. So maybe as your DC gets older it will be easier b/c he can "help". HTH!
