Maybe someone can give me more insight (the PA did not)
So I went on CD# for bw/sono yesterday. My lining was at an 8.4 and they made me come back this morning for another sono since they did not want me to start the injectables until the # went down. This time the lining was at an 8. This has never happened before (but there was the chemical pg this month), and she would not eleborate on what that meant. She only said that Dr. Brenner would take a look at the pics and they'd get back to me later.
I am looking at a cancelled cycle? I don't even know what the whole "thickness of the lining" stuff means and she would not take the time to explain anything.

Re: Maybe someone can give me more insight (the PA did not)
Has AF shown yet? Are you trying to start an IVF or IUI cycle (probably doesn't make a difference)... when I got of BCPs they had me come in to get baseline levels in bloodwork and sono and my lining was too thick and my levels were too high. This happened for 5 days straight! EVERY day I told them that AF hadn't arrived yet, and would that have affected anything b/c if that was the case I would wait for her to arrive and call them to come in. I guess they never shared that info w/ Dr. K b/c all of the sudden I had to make a special trip to Melville early afternoon one day so he could look himself- and when I told him AF had JUST arrived the night before that explained everything! So I waited another day and then everything was fine and I started injectables. HTH!
ETA: They don't want you to start a cycle w/ your lining too thick. They want your lining to shed from the month before so that a new fresh lining can build up during your cycle, as it would (should) if you weren't dealing w/ IF. This allows optimal implantation surroundings for an embryo(s)

Good question.
My last cd2 my lining was at 7. I can't find anything online that tells me what the optimal number on CD2/3 is.
As for the thickening, here is a picture of the changes over the course of the month. Of course measurements are missing!

I'm on CD4 and there's barely any flow (tmi, I know).
My bw came back normal, but it's the lining that's the issue.

Re: Maybe someone can give me more insight (the PA did not)
As far as your lining goes- By any chance was it 2 different techs that measured for you ? The reason I ask is that this has happened to me on more than one occassion and was told that some techs measre differently ( the difference between an 8 and 8.4 isnt all that much) Maybe it was a technical discrepancy ?....Are they actually saying your lining is too thick, being as they wanted the # to go down ? .....Good Luck
ETA- Just read Shannons reply- I understand now why they were waiting for your lining to be thinner

If AF is here I would think your lining should be going down, right? I was always under the impression (at least for me) that as I bled my lining decreased and either when the bleeding stopped OR they started medicating me, the lining started increasing. So I would think your #s made sense. I also agree w/ Bops- if 2 diff. nurses did your sono that could've been why you got 2 diff. #'s.... though more likely your lining is changing...

It should be going down. The only thing I was able to get from the PA this morning was that they were looking for more like a 5 than an 8, but she wouldn't elaborate more than that. I guess I was looking for more of an answer as to why this is happening. I've never had this issue before.

Re: Maybe someone can give me more insight (the PA did not)
They need to know for sure that the old lining has shed - especially after a chemical or m/c. They don't want any of the old material in your uterus. It can cause bad implantation, there may be bad genetic material in the lining, etc. Worst case scenario, they may do a water sono to flush out your uterus (I had it done one time). Best case, it was an error on the PA's part. You will most likely have to go in and have the RE himself do the sono to see exactly where your lining is. They may make you wait a cycle to see if it flushes out on it's own.
BTW, as general info - once AF starts, your lining is pretty much done shedding. You may lose a few mm, but not much. That is why you go in on CD2 to see if your lining is at 5 or below. It starts building up again right after AF starts.
