Me 3 week old wants to be held all the time.
My son is 3 weeks old today and he cries whenever I put him down. I have tried the swing, bouncy seat, everything. What should I do???

Try getting a sling so that you can do things around the house and still hold him at the same time!

Re: Me 3 week old wants to be held all the time.
I feel your pain!! My DD was the same exact way! She wanted to be held every second and would only nap if I held her. I would put her in her bouncy seat and let her cry while I showered but other than that I felt bad letting her cry. My DR said it was more important that they sleep at that age than get trained to not be held. I was going crazy over my maternity leave because I had held her for three straight months! I continually tried to put her in the swing, bouncy seat, etc. Eventually she became less dependent on me and would allow me to put her places. However, for my DD, it took almost three months.

I promised myself that I would not use pacifiers but I had to give it to him. It is the only thing that gets him to calm down. Is it really bad that I gave in???

i did this, it worked most of the time... but sometimes they just need to be held
it sucks not to be able to do anything else, i know... but soon they won't be that little and helpless anymore. it makes me wish i had held DS more when he was a newborn.

not at all!!! the sucking action helps him soothe himself, which is a big help, and not unhealthy at all.

NO! Pacifiers saved my sanity. If it works...do it!

this was my DS to a tee except I never let him cry. here he is at 4 months, i'm at work so my inlaws carry him a lot still during the day. he has acid reflux so that may have been part of the problem too

Re: Me 3 week old wants to be held all the time.
my DS is 3.5 months and he still doesn't like to be alone... lately, he'll occassionally will be happy in a swing, but that's it. Even in the bouncy seat and on the activity mat, he requires someone to be right next to him

Re: Me 3 week old wants to be held all the time.
What works for me is walking around with DS bouncing him and rocking him in my arms, putting him up on my shoulder almost always calms him or on his belly in my arms. Try to get him to a point where he is sleepy and then try putting him down. DS also cries when I put him in his bassinet, I can only get him in there once he is asleep or very sleepy. I put him in his crib with the mobile and he loves it, then I take him back to my room. DS is only 9 weeks so he isn't sleeping in his own room yet. Also do you use a pacifier, DS loves his.

I say hold him! I held my son for six months, and now that he is a big giant squirmy 3 year old, I so miss it. Treasure his being a baby, and learn how to do a wee while holding a baby!

My DD is like that on occassion, and usually I'll hold her nad have her fall asleep in my arms and and then really really gently put her down to not wake her, it works sometimes...

Re: Me 3 week old wants to be held all the time.
LOL, i feel you and my DD is 6 weeks. I literally loose my mind sometimes..i am slowly adjusting her to the swing and stuff again, she hates everything..the floor mat works as she likes to be on her back..my DD has colic so from 4pm until she decides to crash, she screams..in the am, she is up and happy for an hour tops and then at some point i have to walk the house for what could be hours with her facing forward so she can look around at everything, she hates the sling, bjorn etc..i am like, omg, i am going to have a break down! Love her to pieces but my DH logs in long hours and i cant even eat sometimes... I will say she has gotten slightly better, sleeping has been a bit more difficult but she is opening up a bit, i had her in the swing for 15 minutes today! Enought to get dressed and eat an apple, haha. You are not alone, i agree it is nice to hold a baby but at the time, man, a break is needed for sanity..esp when they cry nonstop!! My DD has reflux and a milk allergy so we have had our fill, the poor baby... Keep hanging in there, it will get better, time usually is all it takes it seems..

Re: Me 3 week old wants to be held all the time.
Look at my related post at the bottom of the page LOL!
I have to say, I kept trying to put her down in the bouncy seat, swing, etc. and eventually it worked! I still hold her at 5 months, but she is so independent that she doesn't mind chillin by herself for awhile now!
It will get better, I promise!!!!

Re: Me 3 week old wants to be held all the time.
My 4 week old is the same way. Some days I can get him to take a nap in the swing, carseat/snap 'n go, or bouncy seat, but most days he wants to be held constantly. He also won't sleep in anything but my arms at night. Keep trying and hopefully your baby will become more dependent soon. I'd also use a pacifier if it helps to soothe DC.
