Medicine Help
If you could give me some suggestions on how to get this medicine into her I would appreciate it. I spoke with my cousin who is a pediatric nurse and she gave me some suggestions but unfortunately most of them require more then one person to do. I am alone with her 99% of the day. She is HATING her medicine and is spitting out A LOT of it. I am getting nervous that she is not getting enough of it
I have tried the syringe to the middle of the cheek. She freaks and spits that pretty much right out. I am afraid to put it in her bottles since she is already having problems eating. The other suggestion was giving her a nipple and letting her su ck the medicine through the nipple but I don't have enough hands to do that.
Does anyone else have any suggestions? I wish I could take her back to the doctor for each dosage because to be honest not getting her to take this medicine is bringing me to constant tears with worry.

Re: Medicine Help
My daughter does the same thing. What has worked for me is that I use the dropper and put it in the middle of her cheek like you said, then I quickly put a pacifier in her mouth before she gets a chance to spit it out. Also put her on the changing table when you do it, it will free up your hands. Good luck. I hope she feels better soon.

Re: Medicine Help
I have this pacifier that you put the medicine in and they **** the medicine out of it. That might work.
Another thing I had done was that I would lie marissa on the floor with her head in my lap I would have my fore arem on her hands so she couldn't move then and with the same hand hold her by the chin and with the other take the dropper and put it toward the side of her cheek but more in the back and she would try and fight it but had no choice but to swollow the medicine cuz she was on her back I know it sounds mean and cruel but with this one type of medicine she wouldn't take it at all and I had no choice

Re: Medicine Help
Can her medicine be flavored? MJ hated his zantac and used to spit it right back at me, but I asked the pharmacy to flavor it and its working much better now.

Re: Medicine Help
Thank you all for the suggestions I am going to see if we can get the pacifer thing.
I can't put it in her bottles because she is having feeding issues and they are afraid of 2 things- 1) If I put it in I will never know how much she has gotten when she quits eating, even if I only put it in an ounce of formula 2) Since she is already having feeding issues if this discourages her more from eating we are s crewed.
The medicine is flavored and it's cherry favored, I think, and so are her gas drops so I am not sure if it's the flavor as much as the texture.
But I will definitely be going to the store for the pacifier thing- thank you so much

Re: Medicine Help
I measure out the medicine for Emily and put in on a baby spoon. She takes it soooo much better than the medicine droppers. Hope that helps.

Re: Medicine Help
I dont know how old your little one is, but my son started taking medicine with a spoon, about 15 months.. I told him it was Yummy, as long as it was flavored it was...
When he was smaller if you blow in their face, it forces them to take a breath and usually swallow, I know it sounds mean, but it worked a bunch! Good Luck!
