Meet Mrs. Flintstone!

OMG are my feet SWOLLEN!! I can't even take it anymore!!! I am trying to drink so much water to flush my system out - I think I am going to drown! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am so afraid that my doc will make me stop working just so I can keep my feet up - it's making me bonkers!

Any suggestions to bring my feetsies back to normal (or close to it?).

Re: Meet Mrs. Flintstone!

I had this, keep drinking lots and lots of water- it wont make the swelling go down but very important.
my dr told me you have to keep your feet elevated past your knees, lots of pillows under your feet to make the water come back. as soon as you get up though they will swell again and its worse at night.
also watch your carbs and your sugar- that also increases swelling of the feet and ankles.
the other thing I had to get were support socks ( to wear at work), I couldnt find the socks so I got the knee highs and you wear them all day what a relief!!!!!! and I had feet 3x the size they are normally- friends and family called me sherman- the nutty professor!!!LOL. and I was amazed what those stockings did for me!! you can get them at cvs futuro is the brand. I got mine at a medical store. good luck!

nope! back in the day they thought it was that - toxemia-
you def dont want to increase your salt intake though, but you need salt in your diet. my dr said not to decrease it. but of course dont run out and eat a bag of chips b/c yes you will feel your skin tighten from it but its not the salt that is making you swollen. I was told it was the sugar and high carbs and since Ive been watching them both and cut down- holy batman I have not had any issues of swelling what so ever AND I still eat my salt! even my face/hands/wrists were swollen not anymore.

I would call the doc. I had toxemia and the swelling was part of it.

Just to be safe.

So, what do you eat that doesn't have salt, sugar or carbs?

I also watch my sugar & carbs and have had NO problems w/ swelling...
basically I eat whole foods- veggies, meats and whole grains only- nothing white.

My feet used to get swollen a bit in the Summer time. They get a bit swollen but nothing crazy though.
Besides drinking water, you should try to eat vegetables that help your body get rid of the extra water in your system. I love pineapple(not canned) and it has helped me wonders when my feet were getting swollen. It also helps for your stomach. Also, celery is supposed to be really good for this.

Chat Icon I wish! of course I eat food with sugar carbs or salt- most foods have all those ingredients or at least 1 of them except for maybe protein and veggies. you just have to watch how MUCH you consume of it. milk has sugar and sodium ( 1% at least), dressings have salt. I read labels to see just how much you are eating- a high carb food will turn into sugar.
and like sassy said try to stay away from white carbs- makes a big difference.
some of us are just prone to getting the swelling, not everyone gets it. but its important to keep it under control.
when you go for your monthly checkups is your BP normal? if so then its not toxemia, just normal swelling some of us lucky women get during our pg.s/ Chat Icon

Re: Meet Mrs. Flintstone!

I bought myself a pair of Aerosoles shoes which are sooo comfy. I hate the idea that I spent $30+ on them and I will only really wear them for the next month or two. After that, I am keeping my fingers crossed that these huge feet go back to normal size. I probably won't fit into them when I am back to "me" size.

I am such a picky eater so it's incredibly difficult for me to stay away from these foods all together. I just make a concious effort to eat "less" of it.

Here I go drowning myself in water.......
